Been having this weird volt problem lately. It does it while driving and while idling. I don't know where to start looking for the problem. The volts will chill at 14 and then jump to 16 and chill there for a bit and then it'll start jerking around for a little bit going to 12 volts and back to 16 sometimes even 17 for a second and then dropping down again. I have a lot of accessory wires going to my battery switch i almost can't bolt the wires down theres so many does anyone know if this could be the problem? Usually my volts stay at 14 and never go any higher so i am surprised to get 16 volts out especially since my alternator is rated for high rpm output.

you might be drawing more than the alternator can supply?
could be a short...
slipping belt?
just a few things that come to mind...

Faulty guage? Does the car act normal, but the guage is going crazy? Hook up a real volt meter to the car and see what it says.

At that Point Cobra You might want to check your Volatge Regulator, could be fried. Had that happen on the Stang a few times. Fold Electronics are truley tempramentle

Replace your alternator, the voltage regulator is built into that. From Ford they are unstable at best. I have had one catch fire one the drive home or just stop working on the drive to work. Good luck.

Well it started happening when i put a bigger battery wire on so i am thinking it something around that connection. I just ordered a line of lugz for the wires on my switch so i am gonna rewire and see if that helps any.
By the way i don't have a stock alternator. Its not made by FORD so i don't know if that would be a problem but you have given me other ideas.

Myne does the same thing and its the voltage regulator, I just am going to get a 3g conversion one out of a 94-95 stang.
