Yesterday my battery died out on me. It was slowly draining over a couple days, so I thought it would be a quick fix with a swap. I went and got another one and had it replaced. Well, when I turned the car on, it wouldn't even charge up. We thought maybe the belt was slipping and was causing a problem with the charging. Before this my car was making a high pitch noise when it started up. So I replaced the belt...the high pitched noise went away, but I still had a problem with the battery. But, along with that the fuel pump has started to buzz and won't stop unless I disconnect the battery. There is a kill switch on my car that was there before I bought it. I've had problems with it and the fuel pump has buzzed every once in a great while for the last 5-6 months. Now it won't even stop. I'm wondering if maybe there is a short in the kill switch that is causing the battery to not charge up at all. I reved it a few times and it would charge up for a little while, but finally went back down. Do you guys know of any good places around Hayward that could check the wiring? Is it possible that it's not the alternator at all in terms of the battery charging up? I'm hoping it's nothing too big [Frown]

Damn..didn't know that! I went there earlier today to get a belt. I'll probably go in a little while to get the test done...thanks for the help.

I had a similar problem.... my alternator was drawing 3 amps with the car off because its diodes had burnt up. I got an alternator for a '94GT for $110 from Autozone and used the how-to from www.racesystems.com to install it. I couldn't be happier. I wish I did this upgrade a long time ago.

With the car off, hook up an amp meter in series to your battery and see if unplugging the alternator makes a difference. You should only be drawing half an amp MAX with the car off and the hood light unplugged.
