Well i have been a little suspicious of my car having an exhaust leak in the past but now i really do think somethings wrong... There is a, well lets say "fluttering" sound when i am accelerating and i think decelerating also. It sounds like its coming from under the car (mid section), but i cant be sure. My question is what do i look for when i go under the car to see if i have a leak? I mean anything specifically? I checked once and tightened a few bolts on the crosspipe section, but i think it might be where the headers meet the x pipe. anyone?

all of my leaks (yes, ive had a lot of exhaust leaks [Embarrassed] ) sounded like a ticking sound. mabey you have a bad vaccume leak? hows your car run? [Confused]

well, as far as i can tell its running good, other than that sound. I dont feel a loss of performance or anything, but who knows what i may come across in the next few days. I really hadnt driven it in a few days before i drove it yesterday and noticed it..

can u even smell the exhaust from where u think its leaking? or do u just hear a sound?

Just listen for a ticking sound, but be careful that sound could also be your throwout bearing

norgs-----my exhaust stinks period, so locating one spot might be diffuclt, but ill check...

would the ticking be there at idle??

ok well we went to check into the problem today, & this is how it went. The ticking is very much noticeable at idle, and gets more rapid as the rpms increase. So i look and see that a header bolt is missing and i start to think that just *maybe* that might be causing some sort of air gap. So we replace the missing bolt, and the ticking is still there. Now i notice its coming from not so much maybe the headers, but actually right on top of it from the heads. Could it be a bad lifter or something? I heard those are notorious problems on 5.0's. [Confused]

could be...they might just need to be torqued down or something...do u have aftermarket roller rockers?? get a stethascope (however u spell it) turn on the engine and put the stethascope on places the ticking could be and then u can narrow down where it is coming from. might help cause it is hard to gigure out if u have a rocker arm tick since if u have the intake and valve covers off...u cant start the engine. it could also be a loose injector. i heard taht is another common problem

Mines make a little tick tick tick tick sound on TOP OF THE UPPER INTAKE!! The tick is like a fan spinning.. I think its a vaccum leak cuz of the high idles.. Im not realy worried but will get it fixed before 2003 [Smile] w/ TFS Upper & Lower Intake

Well if a header bolt is missing, chances are the gasket is now ripped time for new header gaskets.
