Basically I have a mid 12 second car topping out around 108 right now. Add a 150 shot to the mix *occasionally* strictly for fun.
I *hope* to have a 12.0/11.9 all motor combo soon. (probably trapping around 112-113 with new heads and a cam)
What is best for that? 26x8 ET Drags, or 26x10 ?
I know the pat answer I'd get on the corral would be "use the smallest tire that will hook".
I have a completely welded up rear end/torque boxes w/Wolfe Racecraft reinforcements and a spool with 31 spline Moser axles. Not worried about breakage
should I get the 10" slick or do I not have enough power? (probably on spray I do but I'm only interested in maxing out the all-motor combo). My ET Streets have ~100 passes and are probably past their prime. I run the 8.5" wide ET Street now FWIW (26x10.5"-15)

Might as well get the 10's. I think the 10's only weigh a lb. or two more than the 8's. You should see some 1.5's on the motor. But with the 150 shot and the new heads and such you will have some issues with with the stock rev limiter and the 26's.

could always shift to fifth on spray

Go with the 10's. Try rotating your slicks after every run and see how many passes you make outta them. IT WORKS.

I would recommend the 10's also but you might want to go to 9" rims as well. This is a stick car, right? One drawback with the 10's will be you will play hell with the clutch if it's not a good aftermarket unit.

Joe,
That car is going to be movin on a 150shot with the new heads and cam. Are you putting a cage in?
I just order some 15x10 Draglites. Im going with the 26/11.5/15 ET streets. The Outside diameter is a little taller then the 10.5s. I need all the height I can get with 4.10s and a 100 shot.

let's see: some short answers:
*spec-stage III clutch should hold whatever I can dish out (I hope?) 'bout 1000 miles on it now
*roll-bar (autopower 4/6 point) has been in my garage a couple months now just waiting for the owner to drop some ET
*15x8.5-15 centerline rims I hope will handle a 10" slick no problem ?
btw, I'm dead serious about shifting to 5th on a 150 shot
3.73s with a 26x10 slick is about perfect for 113 ish traps sneaking under the rev limiter in 4th for hopefully a high, high, high 11 second motor pass. I'm going to run that through a calculator and verify though. I'm at about 5400 rpms at 108 in 4th on 26" tires already, so another 5 mph is still under 6000 rpms I bet. Shoot I could probably get by with 4.10s on motor.

26x10s make more sense because you'll have more gear with the shorter tire and more tire, eventhough the 28 would give you a tiny bit longer patch, it probably wouldnt make up for the extra 2"

This setup is the one that I run, (thank you Mark for copying me )
I use a Ram 900 Clucth, (similar to the spec III)
Joes, as far as you ET Streets being past there prime, mine are way worn down and they still hook awesome. 4300 RPM launches, 1.64x 60fts in a 3500 lbs car with 3.73's. I'm afraid to get new ones...lol

You can fit a ten go with a ten, unless you hook on an 8. If you can hook, run the 8 because the drag of the bigger tire will slow you down a bit. But definatly, if you can fit a 10 and are not hooking on an 8, run a 10.
