im running an AOD in my 89Lx 5.0 drop top and just recently i think i may have burned or fried 3rd and 4th gears. Now whenever i drive on the highway my car goes 1st, 2nd..all the way up to 5000rpm and i have to back it down...on the street it goes 1st, 2nd, nu. what the hell can cause this to happen and what do i have to do to fix it? a rebuild, new aod.. throw me some help guys. Oh if ne of you know a great tranny shop other than Keiths Trans in castro valley let me know. Im willing to travel to castro valley, livermore,hayward, pleasanton, dublin, fremont etc..all 510, 925 areas thanx [patriot]

i had my AOD rebuilt at C&S transmission in san leandro, it cost me like $980 for the rebuilt and they give a 1 year unlimited mile warrenty on their work

your probably better off callin a shop.. they probably know better what coulda caused it and you dont gotta wait for someone to post ideas

I don't know how serious you plan on getting with your car, but remember that stock AOD's don't like lot's of power or drag racing. I went thru 2 before that dawned on me!

I now run a Lentech and the thing is INCREDIBLE!!!
It cost $2100 w/ 10" converter & includes shipping. It really is one of the best mods u can make. VERY reliable & the BEST customer svc. you could ever wish for.
Good luck with your re-build, but now may be the time to look at a better tranny. Just my opinion [Wink]

Dont rebuild that tranny just get a new one. If you want to take it to a great tranny shop try golden gate transmission off Old santa rita road in pleasanton. They do great work.

Excessive heat from too may miles. AOD's are known to start having problems around 110,000 miles.

well if you fryed 3 and 4th its probably your tv cable adjustment. you have to do it right or you'll lose 3rd and 4th aod's usually only lose 4th, all of mine have, time for that wide ratio kit with the bigger overdrive band
