Finally got a set of MT ET Drags (26x8.5). Wanted to know if you guys have any tips or tricks for first time use. How much tire pressure, what rpm to launch at, how long of a burnout, what 60 ft times can I expect from these tires, etc...?

What gears do you have?

Best tip I found is... figure out what RPM you _think_ you should launch at.... then add 500-1000 more on top of it so you won't bog!

I wouldn't start any lower than about 15 PSI, till you get used to it. If you have a blown 5 liter, expect at least 1.6 short times.
If you have stock axles, prepare yourself with a AAA card if you know what I mean. heh

Heres my tip, trailor your car there so when you snap the axles you have a way to tow it home. [Smile]

have 3:55 gears with the a vortech blower. Car put out 350rwhp 360rwtorque. Best run on street tires 13.02 @ 111 mph 2.0 60ft. What do you think I'll hit with the Drag tires? I'm probably going to try and make it to Sacramento for the test & tune on the 26th. Trailer the car there.

8# vortech s/c, e303 cam, 65mm tb, gt40 intake, 3:55 gears, shorty header, x-pipe, flow cat back, skinnies up front, slicks out back (new). this is on a 93 convert with a 6 point roll cage from Maier Racing.

Once you figure out how to use the slicks Iim saying that low 12's are doable with your current setup. You should have the power to get you out of the hole. So some ungodly launch RPM shouldn't be manditory.

I have a friend who went 1.5 60fts consistantly with a stock rearend + TA cover and he never had any problems. I'm not saying that yours will not break over time, but i doubt that youy will lose it the first time out.

Good luck and see you on the 26th [patriot]

shade-tree,
I live in Fremont also. If I end up going I'll be renting a flat bed from U-Haul. I've never towed before but pulling it with my Expo. Should be fun.

heh, I can go with you. I actually need to rent a trailer too, but I'm considering just buying a dolley outright (you know, those crappy 2-wheel carriers) but they suck because if you break your rear axle(s), you have to try and get it up on the thing and tow it backwards. I don't know if that is feasible, or even legal, lol.

Freeway sprints up the 680 towing mustangs?
Think your expedition can outrun a chevy 350 (tahoe) lol. cripple fight! [patriot]

Got a quote from uhaul.com and to rent a flat bed it cost about $49.95.

I don't think I can outrun your chevy 350 but lets find out [Smile] [Big Grin] [Big Grin]

those are some sick as #, depending on how much your car weight you should hit some high 11 et's on slicks. i hit a 12.2 on dragraials with only 340rwhp 60ft was 2.0, good luck bro... [patriot]

Been there, done that, There is a video floating around somewhere of my axle breaking. Actually sounded pretty cool [Big Grin]
The part that sucked was waiting an hour for AAA to show up

Also, if you are lucky enough to get it off the line without snapping an axle, be prepared for a little sway in the rear of the car on the big end.
I wasn't told this before my first time on slicks and it scared the shit out of me. Like Joe said, start with at least 15 psi until you get used to it, the lower the pressure the worse the sway.

Good Luck
Brian
