My car blows white smoke sometimes out the pipes when I am racing and I start squeezing.

My buddys 98 cobra also started doing it yesterday when he got on it next to me. But he wasnt squeezing.

What could this be from? Is it a head gasket failure?

Sounds like head gasket failure. How much timing did you run with the nitrous?

Yup. Head gasket. Better fix that before it gets worse. Dont race it tilll you fix it. Good luck. [patriot]

I'm running 9 degrees timing right now with the nitrous.

What about my buddys 98cobra?????? He doesnt even have nitrous and you think he blew a head gasket too???

is your coolant level dropping?

Posted by sic91sleeper (Member # 779) on :

Could just be steam out the pipes was it cold out when this happend like at night? I woudnt worry just check ur coolent and oil for water

Alright thanks Nate. There isnt oil in the coolant nor is there water in the oil. But this happens day or night so I doubt that its condinstation in the pipes. Maybe I did blow a small piece of the head gasket out. My car did start idling rough all of a sudden.

hey it also could be that you warped you lower intake gasket...that'll make coolant go in your exhaust valves...out the pipes...white smoke

this happend to me when i ported my lower and didn't seat the new gasket on right
hope i helped you

oh yeah one more thing..
before you start ripping every thing off the top end...get a chilton..it'll save you a few hours
maybe days. [Wink]

also anouther trick for head gaskets is, if u take ur car to a smog station and your car running warm take the cap off the radiator and get the prope for the smog machine if there is high carbon dioxide in ur coolant then u got a blow headgasket

4.6's don't blow head gaskets, they bust pistons and rods instead [patriot]

Nate as a matter of fact I am getting my car smogged in two weeks so I will do the carbon dioxide test that you mentioned.

WHEN 4.6'S BLOW HEAD GASKETS THEY PUFF CLOWDS OF WHITE SMOKE OUT THE EXHAUST SO UNLESS YOU HAVE CLOWDS OF WHITE SMOKE COMING OUT YOUR EXHAUST THEN ITS PROBABLY NOT YOUR HEAD GASKET

Posted by 5.0#3 88'conv (Member # 1534) on :

AND ALSO IF ITS COOLANT IN YOUR EXHAUST THEN IT WILL HAVE A SWEET SMELL AND TASTE TO IT.

Well i guess my buddys 98 cobra blew his head gasket because he gets puffs of white smoke.

Please no caps thank you. [patriot]

BTW thanks for everyones help and replys. [patriot]
