They're rated more at torque then at HP, as HP is a function of RPM and I suppose trannies tend to break on sheer twisting forces, not sustained twist at rpm.

anyways, rated figures vary. 3550 is 350 ft/lbs to 400 ft. lbs depending on who's doing the talking. Seem to be pretty dependable down to the high 10 second range in a 3200 lb. car. Work with your standard 10.5" OE mustang clutch/pressure plate assemblies.

TKO internally is the same thing as a 3550, but has a bigger input/output shafts. Requires a different yoke on your driveshaft, and a unique clutch specific to TKO's. You can re-use your pressure plate. The rating is 400-500 ft/lbs. I'm pretty sure. These guys survive into the 9's as is I am told.

I am pretty familiar with the swap, I used a McCleod SFI (Steel) bellhousing and a spec stage III clutch and a UPR firewall/quadrant with the stock ford cable at the same time. I just completed the swap about two weeks ago.

TheBrain runs a TKO in his heavy old 'vert, and John91coupe had a TKO as well. Some other guy here has a 3550 too. [patriot]

The TKO can take up to 650 hp I think.

www.ttcautomotive.com
Click on products at the top of the screen, then light duty, then 3550. That will have all the specs you need.

You will need a new bellhousing, and I think the driveshaft will need to be longer.

Pretty much everyone gets away with the stock drive shaft. As for the bellhousing, you can get an aftermarket one or find one from a '83 (if I remember right) V8 mustang.

I've got a 3550 in my Cobra. Strong little tranny. Heavy Bitch though!

For some reason, the tranny bolted right up to my bellhousing. Most (including TTC) say you need a new bellhousing. Maybe I have an older Tremec.... Anyway, there are several housings that work. Ford has a part# for the 95Cobra R bellhousing that used the Tremec. Stock length DS works fine. I've got an FMS aluminum.

Tip: Grab some GM syncromesh from a dealer near you. That stuff will help your tranny shift smoother/last longer & doesn't find leaks like RedLine.

The swap is as simple as changing a clutch.

You know what sucks....
My very first tranny swap was going from an Auto to 5-spd in my first 4 banger 81 POS mustang. Now THAT sucked ASS!
What the Hell was I thinking!?!

Shit, compared to that, pulling this motor & rebuilding it was a piece of cake!

Sorry, the 94-95's may need a longer driveshaft.
