I was going through other threads and if i re'd right.. Fuel Pumps can actually make your car slower?! I didnt know that... What are the symtons? How do you know when your fuel pump is bad??

I been having a "POPPING" problem with my car for well over 3 months now.. Everytime i "floor" or hit the gas "hard" my car pops and i wont get any speed gain.. BUT if i take my time and press the gas *nicely* or *slowly* i can feel the power...

I asked around.. Some said Spark Plugs./... Replaced ...
Some said CLUTCH - maybe

Now im guessing maybe Fuel Pump because i drove my car ALOT on "E" before... Now my Fuel Guage Meter goes up SLOW everytime i pump gas.. So can this "popping" be the Fuel Pump?

I need to know ASAP! Maybe this can be the problem to that problem...

O.K that POPPING souding isnt like POPCORN popping.. Its like throwing a huge ROCK in the WATER.. More of a "thump" sound, and it is indeed very loud.. Can be well heard outside....

Thanx

Where exactly is the sound coming from though? The engine, exhaust, or underneath the car? It could be a number of things.

Underneath... From the front somewhere.. SOmeone wanna test drive it? 415 656 1104 talk to Nazim.. I wanna put an end to this popping sound.. It makes the car *fvcking* slow and its now on my last nerves...

I know some of you guys can catch this problem jus by drivin the car.. I live on San Bruno Ave.. RIght next to 3com.. Lemm eknow....

"popping" is typical of an exhaust leak (is your smog tube connected to your H-pipe?), it is also typical of running rich AND running lean.

do you have a vacuum leak?

How do i check if my exhuast is leaking? Any shops can do this?

i have this same problem. sometimes when i floor it it pops and doesn't want to go faster, but sometimes it dosent pop and it feels faster. when i left the mufflers on its a quiet popping, but when i took the mufflers off it pops really loud. i changed the fuel filter.

run your codes, do you get 41 and/or 91? (lean) ?

that would explain it [Big Grin]

If its popping through the intake, you're running lean. A bad fuel pump or plugged filter can cause this. The car will be slow to rev at upper RPM's as well.

If its popping through the exhaust, you can have a leak, be running too rich or have your timing retarded too much.

Looks like you need to do a general look-over and tune up.

Change your cap and rotor then try the fuel pump, the pump is located on the top of the fuel tank very easy to change all you need is a flat head screwdriver.

Do the cap and rotor first. That solved my problem.

Check your spark plug wires. Look for arcing in the dark.

What Problem did it solve?? Cuz if i remember right.. Like back in early June i was cleaning my cap and rotor and moved it around *not sure* but i do remember re timing everything.. Maybe something went wrong there?

Hmmm..

I had a popping type feel and sound when my RPM's were getting up there and I was WOT.

So i changed my cap and rotor and it fixed that problem. Most likeley when you changed yours you might have crossed up some plug wires. Double check that with a chiltons manual.

how does the car idle? if it idles rough it's probably an exhaust leak or an electrical problem. but if this only acts up when you get on it, check the sending unit and filter, or fuel pressure.
