Any one know how much a new A/C compressor should cost? I was told that mine doesn't work. Is it hard to install? Thanks

oh yeah it's for a 96 gt and for a 95 Gt (my boy has the same problem) as well.

So what gives? Do you know something? The mechanic said that he just had 2 other stangs with the same problem with in the last 2 weeks. Does Ford not want it's owner to be with A/C? [Frown]

Well, Mark, 88GT, was in my new 02, and he was like 'wow, a mustang with A/C, its been a while' He has his 88, his good friend has a 96 saleen, had a 92 5.0, so I think its just a common occurance

Almost all AC sytems are based on the same stuff, so, for the most part, its not just FORd that has problems. I run into $100K mercedes benzes with ac problems, with only a few thousanf miles. Most failures are the result neglect...

Okay, maybe I'm ignorant, I probably am, but how do you neglect your AC system on a brand new car?

Its not so much neglect on new car, but definately on older cars. Youre supposed to run the a/c systme at least a few times a month, EVEN if its not hot. If the system sits idle (off) for an extended period of time, the seals dry up, and begin to leak. When its leaks, you not only lose you refridgerant, but you also loose you compressor oil... no oil= compressor isnt gonna last as long. The new car thing was just an example. Like anything else, even new stuff can be defective... seals leak, expansion valves leak, anything can happen.
