Called for an estimate to buy and have installed a 2500 stall speed torque Converter and a Trans go shift Kit on my 1991 Mustang 5.0 AOD.
Golden Gate Transmission outta Pleasanton, Ca
quatted me $1,363. Is that about right?
Talked to Mike and he said that it included:
Tranny removal and install
new fluids
The shift kit
Converter
Tax
Labor
What do you guys think? I dont have that kinda money at all i am a senior in High School but i want to get this work done.
I was thinking do the shift kit and buy 3.73 gears instead of the converter. What do you guys think?
Thanks for everyones help

jared, lets break down the prices...
a stall is about 350
shift kit-didnt you say you were gettin it for 100?
fluids-10 a quart
so add all that up, multiply by 8%, add that to the total, and thats all of your parts.
so that means its about 600? labor, thats not too bad, seems about right

get motivated (not that you arent but you will need to be to pull that pig of a tranny out) get some buddies together and rent borrow or buy a tranny jack.
Crawl under the car with a MANUAL (haynes/chilton etc) pull the trans out yourself and take it to Walnut Creek transmission and pay them to put the shift kit in if you dont trust yourself to do the work.
You can either buy the shift kit and converter from a source or buy the converters/shift kit they offer.
Ill do the labor (R&R) on the tranny for $350.00

An AOD swap isn't too bad. Just get a lot of extentions together:

Ok so now that i have got a few opions and thought a little i'm going to hold off on the torque converter and get a trans go shift kit insatlled and save for 3.73 gears.
Anyone in here that would like to make some extra cash and install a Trans go shift kit for me let me know. I believe it involves some drilling in the valve body...

actually the good converters are about $600
don't even bother.....it's cheaper to do a T5 swap or buy a new lentech tranny w/ the converter and valve body already done.
if you have more than 40k or so on your car you are in definite need of a rebuild anyway.
That adds about another $500 or so for stock parts...and it will still fall apart when you try to do the AOD shuffle.
I had 3 and will never use one again....except maybe for a yacht anchor.
