what are a good set of aluminum heads 2 use with this cam, without having to modified the pistons for valve clearance.the motor the heads will be going on is a 306 with basically stock pistons and x303cam.Or should i just change the cam.any sugestion are welcome...thanks [patriot]

Too close for comfort. Even with 1.94 valves on your typical aluminum heads the clearance would be too close on that .542" lift cam. Don't even bother using stock pistons with 2.02 valve heads and X cam. Buy flycut pistons. If cost is an issue use TFS or Edelbrock. If not get AFR.

Pretty odd to build a motor around a cam. Usually you'd set a goal for the car, figure out what kind of power you need to reach that goal, then pick the heads, blower, intake and then see what cam will optimize that combo... then pick the fuel system to support that level of power. We all have to start at step 1: What's your goal?

Just about every tech article I have read in MM&FF and 5.0SF mentions that the max valve lift on a stock 5.0 piston with an inline valve head is about .540". I went through that issue since the Comp Cam I have is also .542" of lift. I decided to err on the safe side and buy flycut pistons. St5150 is right though. Why not choose your components (heads,intake, pistons, etc.) and build around that? With this out of the way any cam manufacturer would be glad to recommend the perfect cam for your combination.

i got the motor for a good price, in hoping the motor will last for 1 year at least. my car is supercharger right now, but i got 5 holes in the oil pan so that motor is shot. i was making 370rwhp on the old motor with gt40 iron heads, with the new motor and new aluminum heads im hoping for 420rwhp. im thinking of just changing the cam (e303) but will c.thanks

xchpstang- Sounds like you made the right choice. Keep in mind that a cam doesn't open the valves to thier peak at exactly TDC so the "clearance zone" can be very different for two cams of the same peak lift. I always cringe when magazines make blanket statements.

1sicklx- Whats your current combo? What are you looking to get new? Just about any aluminum heads/intake/cam combo on a stock bottem end will make 420 rwhp with 10ish PSI.

the old motor is a stock 5.0 with gt40 iron heads and intake,4:10 gears,novi2000(8-9BOOST), and the rest of the bolt on's, on a notch back.im looking for new heads for a 306, but i just might port the gt40 iron (or maybe trickflow) heads and change my x303 cam to a e303 cam. but any new input is welcome. my big problem is no $
