I just did my springs and shocks on my 83. It was fairly simple. I disconected my tie rod ends and shocks and supported the a arms with a jack. I let the a arm down very slowly until the spring was uncompressed. I then just popped it out with a crowbar. I tried a spring compressor but it just takes way too long and seems too dangerous. Be careful and take your time. The shocks are simple. Just unbolt the two bolts on the spindles and then unbolt the top nut on your caster camber plates. Good luck.
