First i have a 1991 Gt Mustabg AOD

I heard that you drive in first as long as you want to hold first gear then shift to drive for second and when you hear it shift to 2nd you can put it back into first gear and it will hold second as long as you want untill you shift back into drive for third gear and then to overdrive for 4th gear.
Is this true.
It works on my buddys 89 Rag lx but he has a b&Mratchet shifter so i didnt know if thats what it was.
well i want to try it but not untill i know that it works for sure

is that bad for the tranny shifting like that?

ok this morning i tried that shifting pattern and it worked. Now i can hold 2nd as long as possibly can when i'm racing. So technically i can hold 1st,2nd, and 3rd gear!!! I'm so exited for my next race because i get pulled in third gear because it is so tall. Faster e.t. times for me.

does that work the same with AODE..?

will that shifting hurt the transmission

From what I have heard, yes, it is bad on the transmission. Call the AOD tranny shops fo their input. MM&FF discussed it a year ago and said it was hard on the Tranny.
A Lentech throttle body, higher stall converter and trans cooler are great pieces if u wanna keep your AOD alive and fast!!
I had a Lentech street terminator(non-lock) last spring and have been VERY happy with it.

I own a Lentech Street terminator (non-lock up). It's in the 66 cobra The best 2000$ I ever spent on that car.

The shuffle will kill your AOD.
Something to do w/ the gears being in an intermittant mode when you pull the selector back to "1" and really in 2nd.
I used to do it all the time in MY AOD car, but then again i used 3 AOD's in it, in 6 years.
The lentech valve body is the only cure for it, for those who refuse to do a C4 swap.

Well thanks for everyones help, it does work well with my new AOD. Anyways when i get my tax money back i will be getting a shift kit and a new torque Converter installed but i have no clue what stall speed or all that means???? Its a daily driver weekend warrior car and i do want my AOD to last. Please help this is my next mod to my car. I just need a better converter than the stock with more power than usual.

i did that a lot in my car, and it hasn't failed. But i now switched to a full manual PA valve body, it's awesome, churps third gear now!

Remember guys, our Ford AOD is NOT a performance tranny!!
In stock form, it sucks! We use Tourqe converters so we can rev-up our engines into our desired launching range WITHOUT stressing the tranny. Also a smaller converter will allow the engine to rev faster. I went with a 10" and the difference was amazing.
Deciding a converter is tricky, as your power levl & gearing will affect it's true stall speed. Talk to a tranny shop that specializes in AOD's and trust them. I strongly endorse Lentech, & have heard good things about Art Carr, TCI and others. My friend recently got ripped off by Level 10, so I can't say much for them.
Lastly, drag racing & heat will kill your tranny!! get a cooler, it's cheap insurance.

I went through 3 AODs most from the AOD Shuffle bu unfortunatly thats the only way to drive these cars fast without a manual valve body.

I have had absolutely NO issues with my ART Carr AOD and I do the Shuffle ALL the time. Helps to have a $170 trans cooler also.

sic91....trust me on this....get a 3000 stallion or you will be sorry.
It's about $650 i think.....and that will make you look at others from the price.
But i used a tci 2200 and hardly noticed a difference. It still had that little "bog" area once the tires stopped spinning at about 2 grand.
The stall speed is a reference point basically, where the car will start to move when you stomp on it.
Or where the tires start to turn when doing a brake torque.
The actual stall speed will depend on your cars weight and HP your making.
Usually a stang stalls at a lower stall cuz there kinda light. And HP is usually expected to be around 300 or so in the advertised stall speed.
So a 3k stall converter in a bone stock GT might only really give you about 2200-2500
a couple hundred more in a vert....and more so even when you add some more HP.
I didn't see what your car was or mods....but go big or stay home on this. It's a good mod...a little expensive and one you don't want to do again later cuz you were disappointed in the converter you got. Go w/ a 3000
