Every place around where you live is a ripoff. I know, because I called all east bay shops.
Call Rear End Specialties down in Santa Clara. They are approx $200 bucks to install, and there appointment is about an hour to two hours time.

I would get 4.10's but this car is my daily driver and i dont wanna spend a ton of money on gas. I just want a little more accel for my car nothing major. It has 2.73's right now so i think 3.55's are enough

3.55's and 3.73's are very close to eachother. Just get the 3.73's, you'll notice a bit more punch and NO less MPG vs 3.55's.

Ask rearend if they will swap it for you? Are they brand new still in a box, make a deal with them. I am getting my gears done there Friday, they told me $470 w/gears and their warranty out the door.

does that include replacing the outer bearings and the instaliton kit and rearend fluid. And no my gears i bought used on ebay from a rearend shop in stockton. i paid 60 dollars and they came from a car with 40k miles, they look excellent

No, that does not include bearings, an depending on miles (& launches!) you may have to replace them. They are a good shop, & honest so u should be able to trust them. Those 3.55 are ok. at least they are broken in(break in's a bitch!!) and you will be fine if you are planning a blower.
If not, then go with a higher # gear. & if u have AOD, you MUST go higher!!
I had them swap out my 3.73's for 4.10 and the car is great. Now I just need a higher converter...

How exactly do you break in rear end gears? I remember someone told me once, but I didn't pay much attention.

I have 4.10s and my gas has been no different then before, in faact, its a little better. and yes i still stomp on it as much, if not more then before. thought that was interesting.

Does everybody really watch their gas mileage that closely? We drive V8 powered performance cars. Screw the mileage go with PERFORMANCE!

Got my rear done today, guess what was on before 3:55's. You can actually ask them to swap. I ended up paying $340 for everything. The guy there was really nice. Definetly bring your gears to get done by them. Also if you want your speedometer to read correctly go get the speedo gear from Apex which is right down the street.

Man!!
I gotta go and get gears again!
I just blew my rear-end, and now all this talk is making me itch!!
FUCK!
4.10's again!! Here we go!

Gear break in: first 100 miles, u need to drive
<55mph, for no more than 15 min at a time. Then park and let the gears cool for 20 min.
During the next 300 miles you can drive sustained speeds less than 65.
Thaen change the fluid and your ready to go!!
If you make a long drive to get the gears done ,like I did, than it's a major hassle going back home.
Hey Sic, if you plan on using your stang for lot's of Drag rac'n, I would STRONGLY reccomend a Lentech Valve body. You can call them directly with your combo/usage info and they will set u up with a custom converter/valve body combo.
R u going to the GoodGuys show this Sun???
