Hey all. So around 6k miles ago my ToB completely blew out and I ended up having the entire clutch replaced. Now im stuck with the same problem all over again my ToB is going bad, I get that awful squeeking noise. So how much do you think it would cost to get just my ToB replaced? This is on a 00' GT btw

about the same about of labor to do the whole clutch job, because you still have to take the tranny out.

This isn't true. You can remove the half of transmission that houses the ToB without taking the clutch & flywheel out. It only took about two hours, should be relatively cheap.

A TOB should last a lot more than 6K miles. Something else is wrong that wasn't fixed on the last go round.
Off the top, it sounds like an alignment problem somewhere on the transmission input shaft. The transmission is not lined up with the crankshaft, the clutch fork is bent and not keeping the TOB centered, the transmission shaft is bent, the clutch pivot is twisted, who knows without getting in there and looking at it. I would verify everything in the path between the pilot bearing and the transmission. I would highly recommend checking the runout between the bellhousing and the flywheel (more info: http://www.camaros.org/bellhousings.shtml )
It's unlikely you need you a new clutch. It's probably worth taking it off and inspecting it and the flywheel while you're in there though. [ September 12, 2010, 09:42 AM: Message edited by: SteveL ]

How much play do you have in your clutch pedal? Your pedal should have an inch or 2 of play before you feel clutch tension. Having tension on your cable all of the time could do this to your TOB.
That's assuming if you have an adjustable cable and or firewall adjuster.

I don't have an adjustable clutch cable, I have some play before my clutch engages. Should I take it to the shop that did the install on the clutch? Or does anyone know anywhere near castro valley that is able to take a look at it?

What kind of TOB is it? Is the noise kinda faint or is it loud?
I know when I changed the clutch on my Toyota Pickup, my TOB made a little sound but not much, and then eventually went away. And also when my friend did his clutch on his 03 cobra, he was getting some TOB squeak in less than 5000 miles. But he got that squeak because he used an OEM ford TOB and they all come from Ford completely dry and not greased up..

Im pretty sure its the OEM ToB that the shop used to replace it with. its a feint squeak so far. will it get worse you think?

It might, it might not. But if your TOB messes up again, I'd suggest getting a new retainer sleeve and possibly a clutch fork depending on the condition of it.
