I found a 64 stang or a 67 stang I may pick up and I really want to put a newer motor in it. What will I need? What are my options? I have seen 5.0's in em. I wont have the bread for a terminator motor. What is a happy medium between those 2? And what is involved to do it right?
Opinions and experience welcome.

Im gonna catch some heat but an LSX is probably the most ideal swap motor for any application.Its very affordable.Its one of the more simple designed motors out there.And they look great in just about any engine bay

If you decide to stick with an SBF, it's not that hard. You'll need a front sump pan, pickup and timing cover for the dipstick tube (if you use a 5.0 roller block). Obviously all of the top end EFI stuff. You can hack together a harness yourself or buy one for $550 from fordfuelinjection.com. I've heard their harnesses are very good. Then you'll need to run a return line if you decide to keep the 5/16" fuel line, but it'd probably be easier to run just two new 3/8" lines. Then you need an EFI pump. I believe the '87 F150 has an external pump that can be bought new for $80ish. [ June 15, 2010, 07:47 PM: Message edited by: wilit ]

Checkout the retrotek BOSS efi. They have really cool setups like the multi carb look or 4 barrel holley look. Keep's it looking stock under the hood/period correct. All depends on your budget though.

I bought this 340HP crate motor from ford for $3200 delivered. I'm putting it in my 65 Fastback. Mine is going to be carbed, but you can easily buy an EFI harness with computer:

thanks folks. Dont have a set budget in mind, still doing some research and seeing what costs what. I wanna do it right, but keep and eye on budget.
Gonna go check the cars out this weekend. Hopefully they are as described.
Oh more questions:

sounds like a good build always want to do a 67 are you going to do all the work yourself

You will need a new driveshaft and u can use a aid, tremec, t5, t10, top loader, or any other tranny that jolts to a small block ford

yes and no.....But I will be learning some shizzle. First car I just went to see was a total rust bucket. Nothing like was advertised
