i have a stock 50 except for full exhuast... i always run 91 at the pump so i wanna get a extra hp from bumpin up the timing but was told that its not safe to run with the timing bumped up all the time... what are your opinions...? thanks...

Try 14* first. If it doesn't ping try 16*. No harm will come if it doesn't detonate (ping).
Try it, you'll like it.

the OE timing pointer is basically +/- 2 degrees, just keep that in mind. Probably why sometimes 16 works for some people and only 12 for others.
A good timing light can tell you the actual timing, and doesn't need the balancer reading...

nah man, it's like NAWWSS, only hit it when you need it.

i ran 16 in my car and had no problems, when i modded my car i had to retard it.

i drove my car eveyday at the time a 16 had no problems, put you timing at 16 and if your car pings retard it down to 14 and so on.

As long as it doesn't detonate you'll be fine.
