I was assembling a motor a while back and when we were inspecting all the parts I noticed how restricted the headers are at the flange. You buy a set of trick aftermarket heads and headers, then look at the difference between the exhaust ports and the inlet of the headers. We were working with a pair of TFS High Port heads and a pair of MAC headers. I decided to port the inlets. I couldn't get them as big as the exhaust ports but I did remove a huge restriction and better the port match on the edge. I also noticed the outlet where the H pipe bolts to had a smaller diameter than the exhaust too. No point in adding 2 1/2" exhaust if the outlet on your header is smaller. The Mac headers were less than 2 1/4" and had a huge build up around the edge. After the assembly everything went together and worked fine. I was working on my own engine today and started the port work on my own headers. Mine are Ford Racing and don't have as much restriction as the MAC's but still are there. Also the outlet wasn't quite 2 1/2 so I opened that up as well. I don't know if anyone has messed with doing this in the past but it should help in any case.... I guess the dyno will tell! Here are a couple pics of one port done and another stock, its hard to tell from the pics but its a huge difference in person.

Good job, this is the shit that most "novices" don't pay attention too. That's the attention to detail that will set you apart from the other guys and hopefully get you a win. It may not add 20 hp but every little bit counts and with that kind of thinking it will all add up in the end.

you think mac is bad you should see bbk's headers
the ports look like they measure 1 1/2" .
I started to deburr them but the material they use is super hard and murder on die grinder tools.

I know about the beating die grinder's take when porting. I found a couple good ones, I've used the shit out of em and they keep going.... they just done work for shit with aluminum I found. I've got a lot of little stuff I use to port now, I just tend to go a little crazy I think. I do one port then open the next one up bigger so I go back and make the first one bigger... next thing I know I have a pair of tunnel port E7's. They work, I've had good results, its just scary to start porting on a pair of good aluminum heads but oh well, it'll work I'm sure.
