Okay, so I have a few questions about this 69 Mustang I have and it's 302. Stock they came with 220hp & 295tq, about the same as your stock fox 5.0.

Seeing as how this Mustang has something wrong with the #1 cylinder (spun bearing maybe?) she will be having a rebuild. Nothing extravegant. Cast pistons (std bore if possible), stock shotpeened rods, stock turned/polished crank. Then ofcourse I will throw on a few go fast goodies, Edelbrock Performer cam, Edelbrock Performer intake, Edelbrock Performer 600cfm carb, Tri-Y headers, Pypes exhaust, Pertronix distributor upgrade, MSD Blaster 2 coil, and MSD 6A ignition box.

One of the biggest downfalls (so I've heard) of a factory 302/5.0 are the heads. I found a set of GT-40P heads for a decent price locally and my question is, are these newer GT-40P heads any better than a stock 69 302 head or will I be losing power? Are the combustion chambers smaller, larger, or the same (compression will change obviously)? If I went with GT-40P heads, would I still be able to use my Tri-Y headers? Would I be better off looking for a 351w head?

I myself estimate the power output should be somewhere in the line of 245hp or 250hp, any thoughts?

Also, what Ford's had 8" rear ends and rear disc brakes, in case I decide to do a junk yard rear disc conversion?

Thanks for any and all comments!

Don't skimp on the pistons - it's not that much more expensive for a decent quality set.

The GT40P heads have a different spark plug angle that might interfere with early model headers. You might need to clearance a couple of tubes to keep the plug wires from hitting them. They are an upgrade from stock heads, but a ported set of D0OE heads from a 69-70 351W would also work well with some exhaust porting, + any header will fit.

HP depends on the entire combo. Too many variables.

No 8" rear ends came with disc brakes. Here's a link to some good 9" info: http://www.ultrastang.com/Rearinfo.asp?Page_ID=1

Well, I guess I didn't mean I was going to go out and buy new cast pistons. I am going to have the originals cleaned and re-use them. The car only has 90,000 miles on it.
