Although I don't think cutting springs is the best way to go I have done it before with "ok" results, and rear springs CAN be cut too.
What you want to do is cut from the top. The first full coil is known as the "dead" coil. Cutting only this coil will hardly lower the car at all. I would cut about 1/2 coil past the dead coil. Anything beyond this, and ride quality will suffer big time. Good Luck.

Cheers
Luke

Don't ever cut your springs! It's ghetto. But you're from Oakland so I guess it's ok.

Ya I jpicked up PurpleNotch's coupe a few weeks ago, he had the back springs cut 2 coils I think and then he cut 3/4 of a coil off the front springs. It does ride pretty rough, but any time you lower a car that much the ride quality will suffer, just maybe not quite so much with eibachs or something.

the front ones you can cut to get the height you lookin for. but the rears if you cut them too much they will fall out of the car when you go over a bump sideways. i have better luck heating the coil up top start next to the dead coil and work you way down that way you dont lose spring pressure as if you do it in the middle. and be careful dont drive the car or sit in it until the springs have fully cooled down. its not a bad idea to cut aftermarket ones either because they already have a stiffer rate but if you cut to much they are more expensive to replace. i used convertible springs since that is the heaviest body style
