Who put the shortblock together?
Posted by Casey90GT (Member # 6175) on
:
I ordered the shortblock from M&R Engines, who put everything together, but I went back through and doubled checked all clearances and torque specs. Everything was right on the money.

400 at the wheels, wow thats a strong 331
Posted by Casey90GT (Member # 6175) on

Maybe it's a tad bit optimistic...should still be high 300's. I was planning on putting it in a 1962 Ford Falcon that weighs all of about 2,200 lbs, and run it through a 10" lockup style converter, pro-built full manual c4 , ultra light alloy drive shaft and an 8" rear with a 3.89 spool, so power to the wheels in that car would have been higher than in, say, a fox body. Anyway, Desktop dyno said 448 flywheel and the only time I've had a motor on a dyno, Desktop dyno was about 10% low (The motor made 10% more power at a peak that occured 10% later in the rpm range).
Regardless, I used top quality components picked to work really well together and this motor is a hell of a deal. I am definately not trying to represent it incorrectly and have receipts for everything. threethirty1 is probably right though...400 rwhp might be a bit high of an estimate, especially in a heavier Mustang, so I am sorry if I offended anyone.

For $2,600, you can get the above motor, less the cam, lifters, pushrods, gear drive, and oil pump. Basically, $2,600 gets you a complete rotating assembly, girdled block, GT40X heads, and all ARP hardware. You finish with valvetrain of your choice, oil pump, pickup, pan, intake, valve covers. $2,600.00
I have invested:
$1,800=bottom end
$1,200=heads
$300=ARP studs
$200=SFI damper
$100=gaskets
That's $3,600, plus my labor, for $2,600.00...all 100% brand new never run, with receipts.
I haven't pulled anything apart yet, so if you still want the motor as it's listed above, get back to me asap!
That's a pretty good fuckin deal If I didn't just pull all the shit off of my car I would consider buying this to get my car running again.

Thanks for the kind words! The compression is too high for a blower though...this motor is 10:1 (actually, it came out to 9.82:1 when we measured it).
Wouldn't need a blower with that motor

i cant believe this hasnt sold yet ive been keeping my eye on it for like 2 weeks now

Okay...here are some pics. The reason that I have not sold it yet is because I am actually willing to hold out for my asking price.
So, where I am at...$1500 for the short block with the Summit Racing 28.2 oz damper, all brand new. The GT40X heads are sold, but I have another set of GT40Y heads that I can throw on here with new gaskets and all. The GT40Y heads have 64 cc chambers which will put this motor right at 9:1 compression...perfect for a blower. So, $1,500 for the short block or $2,300 with the heads. I can even throw an E-cam timing set and front cover on it for $2,400. If somebody just wants the heads, they are $800 with new head bolts and gaskets.
Here are the pics:
