Optima batterys are junk. I got 2 or 3 sitting on the shelf that are bad. One still in the plastic wrap.

Here is a cut and paste from another forum.

Hawker Genesis or Odyessy is the Rolls Royce of dry cell batteries. They actually originally designed and patented the Optima, but it didnt meet their expectations. Nothing compares to them in every catergory or test. But they come at a price, but you definitely get what you pay for.

Best value is probably the Deka Intimidator in dry cell. Far better than the Optima in power and reliablity. Remybattery.com has these for less than $100US. I can land them for less money from them at retail, than my distributer cost here in Canada.

Delco is a pretty good battery. But Johnson Controls bought Delphi and they are already starting to out source. So expect them to be about the same quality of Interstate, Exide, and Optima (other Johnson Control holdings).

For standard wet cells I would look at East Penn (division of Deka), but they are even moving some stuff to mexico. Deep cycle I would go with a Trojan, maroon jacket.

Back to the red top. Here is some test comparisions that tell you it all:
Red Top: 38lbs
Intimidator: 44lbs
PC1200 (Oydyessy): 54lbs
These are the same size batteries, only difference is the amount of lead in them. In my drag bike 3 blue tops would not last a run, 2 wet cell Dekas were 1/2 second faster, did 5 runs and have been in cars ever since.
