I've wanted to make an "update" and "thank you" post, but decided to wait until the whole racing family were home ... including DJ, me, and the CAR! After some crazy last minute flight changes, broken down tow rigs, and a rainy day trip down to Socal, we"re all safe and sound back here in Norcal!

It"s been a wild and fun year considering we brought a car back out that was left for gone after a mishap at the track in July 2009. After an assessment by Jim Harris, DJ, and me, we realized that with a thrash session, we could get the car ready for the WCHRA 2010 season. With ZERO experience on a drag radial, we tried our luck in WCHRA's Drag Radial class where we pulled off a 2nd place finish for the year! Kudos to all of the racers in the Drag Radial class. For the record, I hate radials

We decided to take the car out east and try our luck in ORTC's x275 class against the quickest and fastest in the USA - but on a slick! With 75-80 cars showing up for our class and only a field of 64 going to the show, we knew we had our hands full. We had 4 test hits prior to qualifying where we were able to pull off the best sixty-foots ever in the car - a 1.21! Unfortunately, due to problems in the rear of the car (rearend shifted over and a bound up sway bar), we were only able to muster up a 5.37 at 110MPH (lifting at 3.19 into the run) in qualifying. That pass was good enough to make the 64 car field at 56th. After making some late night suspension changes before eliminations, we were hoping for a good showing in the first round of eliminations. The suspension changes paid off - the car went straight off of the line. However, with the increased power off the line, we experienced serious tire shake. I pedaled if for a just a fraction of a second while still in the sixty-foot, but that was enough to lose the round as we could only muster up a 5.19 at 139MPH (video at bottom of post). The only "feel good" part of losing this round was that the person who beat us, Wes Whitten, went on to chop off everyone in the other lane to take the win and take home the $15K!!!!

The season of WCHRA wouldn't have been possible without the help my crew and sponsors:

Crew:

DJ ("Afromaro") Reid
Eric (Future "Extreme Streeter") Kvilhaug
Gary Castro

Sponsors:
Harris Fabrication
S&S Automotive
Induction Solutions
Calderon Tires

Making it out east to the ORTC wouldn't have been possible without the help of the list of companies and friends below who donated the funds to make the trip out east possible! I can't thank these folks enough for making the generous donations to make sure we were there!

Drew Wallace @ AED
DJ Reid
Dave Zimmerman @ Team Z Motorsports
Tim Rigby
Eric Kvilhaug
Kelly Chambers
Shawn Allsup
Josh Boam
Lee Martinez
Dan Watts
Rhett Ernst
Ray Sbrana
Joseph Lopez
Richard Gabel

I'd also like to give huge thanks for those assisting with the car while at the SMGP track in Georgia including:

Dave Zimmerman @ Team Z Motorsports
David Wolfe @ Wolfe Racecraft
Shannon Davis @ Davis Traction Control

While the car is for sale, since we made the haul out East, I've decided to race the car until it sells. The current plan of record is to test on radials this upcoming Saturday at Sacramento Raceway in preparation for SCSN's Wild Street later this month. Should I still own this car come the first race of WCHRA 2011, we'll bring it back out...but NOT on radials!!!

Thanks to everyone. I hope you enjoyed the update.
Greg

Greg, why are you still testing on radials?

The only class that makes sense for SCSN is the Wild Street class which is a spec tire class (i.e. M/T 275 Radial).

Happy to help Greg. Glad you guys were able to go out there and make the field! Also glad to hear that you got the pulling left issue figured out.

See you Saturday! [burnout]

Congrats on a killer season of racing!

Glad I could help out a little.

What is the ET & MPH record for a nitrous car in X275?
