Mark Niver A/FD driver died today in the 3rd round at Pacific raceway in Washington. Crashed at the top end chutes failed. Sad day I think thats four people have died at NHRA event this year.

I TIVO'd the race and watched it many times over and over again and i do have a couple ?'s if anyone has more info on how specifically he died

If anyone didn't see it the chutes came off when released, slowed down a fair amount, rolled into the sand trap still slowing, and then hit the first safety net w/ the front wheels and then the net got him.

It didn't look all that horrendous so was it due to the impact or the folding over of the front section and into the drivers compartment? How fast was it moving when it hit the net?

I know it will be investigated thouroughly but it seems that maybe he could have used the rear hand brake more going into the sand???

Very sad to see another racer go RIP!

intill it's been look in to it's anyone guess to what happen.mark was old school he built the whole car himself even the engine

rip.. i read this yesterday.. they way it read was the shoot failed.. and when he hit the net it folded the chassis into the drivers compartment.. can someone post up the link?

Did the chassis fold at the driver cockpit???? He got that thing slowed down pretty damn good. How the hell did it impact him enough to kill him?!? Very tragic because that didn't look like a quick death. Rip.
