Well, I get a call from the diff shop today, "Drew, got some bad news", I'm not suprised at all at this point! It seems that when my POS Auburn Pro broke it phucked up both my axles! So, even if the weather by some chance does clear for Saturday, I'm 99.9% not going to make it anyway

My Jeep has Moser 1 pieces in its rearend and when my bearing went out on it the burned up axle badly and Rearend Specialties and another place i went to both told me that my Moser axle would have snapped in half if i went wheeling with it.

What will you replace the Auburn pro with? I plan on getting a pair of Mosers or Strange 31-splines as well, but I'm looking for a good differential to go with it.

I had the guy at the diff shop reinstall the trac loc 31 spline setup I had in the first place. Believe me, Ford can build a rearend! Just have your stock diff converted to a 31 spline setup, (of course new clutches and bearings also), add your favorite 31 spline axles and never look back.

Fuck Auburn Posi's and their non rebuildable cones.....

Ford Rangers have used 31 spline T/L's forever. Same thing as the cobra I believe. Just MUCH easier to get. But like I said before, any diff shop can convert a stock 28 spline T/L to a 31 setup.

edit: Rhett's car also has the same setup. Best 60ft to date is a 1.575

Hey man I think you should paint that rearend nicely before you put it back in. It would look nice!!!

I'm going to do that, but I'm going to strip all the stock paint off first so it looks better when I'm done

Put an eaton 31 spline posi in it, way tougher than the Auburn. Mark Williams has a great price on it, in their web specials section.

450 is a great price , i bought my eaton for 350 2 years ago
and an eaton can blow up too, the brain put one into about 1000 PIECES
Posted by mustanggt5091 (Member # 444) on

eaton is rebuidable though as long as it doesnt grenade, like i said before, 33's and a mini/spool/locker
Posted by 66 AC COBRA (Member # 904) on

33's are a little over kit, drew isnt trying to go 8's, i think
31's and a detroit would work
spool would be better

33's = un-needed weight
spool = poop (at least if it were in my car..lol)
The rearend is already back in my car. As sad as it is, I would have made last Saturdays race, had it not rained.
Oh well, I'll be there on the 22, weather permitting.

why would a spool be poop, the car isnt ever running long enough to be considered a steet car
crap my "street" car is getting a spool, it will "drive" fine

We obviously have different ideas on what a street car is.
My car hasn't been down a single day since this 347 has been up and running, aside from upgrades and this rearend breakag
e of course.
My car is still a pleasure to drive around town, not a PITA and I'd like to keep it that way. My car will always pull double duty as a street/strip car and I'll do my best to take the best of both worlds to find a happy medium.

I doubt I'd call a spool "streetable". Breaking that first axle doing a quick turn will change your mind.
I'll take my 11.40's/full power/working AC/leather interior streetcar anyday!
Posted by 66 AC COBRA (Member # 904) on

yeah yeah yeah, ac this, power steering that, it all comes down to what you want in the end
and the street car and driveable where in " " for a reason, it was a joke
with ladder bars i wont be able to turn fast anyway, so a spool will worry me less than bending a track link

I drove my 69 on the street with ladder bars and a spool and will again. It isn't as bad as you might think. One of the tricks for street driving with ladder bars is to loosen the Jamb nuts on the rod ends. They are threaded so far into the ladder bar it isn't a big deal. I would put a wrench on them at the track. As far as turning with a spool it would drag the inside tire only on super tight turns other than that you couldn't even tell it was there. Don't try it with stock axles. It isn't a rain driven car either.

moser 31 splines in a 9", should be ok, i hope
and i went with spherical ends so i think it will not bind quite as easy as an all solid setup
