For running open cutouts... so I park my car and go watch. The Comp Rod class goes up and what do I see? A modded out 5.0 running cutouts/dumps, with a decibel level probably twice as loud as mine.

were you running in comp rod?
Posted by 1fast281 (Member # 4670) on
:
The rules state that all cars must go through the mufflers, even comp rod. I have ran at Sears Point over 10 times before and they have never once said anything about my cutouts. My car is really not loud at all at idle, only when I get on it.

sears has a calibrated sound meter, it's hooked up to the computers, if it goes over 95dbs it shows up on the screen and you are done. they are having horrible trouble with noise complaints and they are forced by the county to monitor it.

because there are so many homes near sear drag strip
they live next to a fucking race track, what do these people expect

dont you have a lincoln?
why do you have a cutout
Posted by 1fast281 (Member # 4670) on

Yes, I have a Lincoln and it has 2 cutouts. The 4v heads sound awesome with "open exhaust." Definately a different sound than a pushrod motor.

The one house next door to Sears Point has a meter in his house so he gets the reading anytime time somebody goes over the limit.

I do have mufflers on the car. FYI, I gained 15rwhp with the cutouts open, so do you have any more tuning tips for me?

I can't pass smog without cats, this way I can still pass smog and have the HP whenever I want to uncap the cutouts.

Where in the hell is the nearest house to Infineon?
The track is surrounded by hills.
I guess I should put a decible meter up at my house in Castro Valley and complain when a jet flies over of a fire engine goes by!!!

here's one tough guy: what is 15 rwhp and being booted off the track in BRACKET night going to do for you in a 14/15 second lincoln on street tires?

It's going to make me run slower...? Who cares if it's bracket racing or not, I still try to run as fast as I can every time I race. BTW, with a proper drag setup my car is a 13 second vehicle.

wow incredible! I'm sure that extra 15 HP is worth getting thrown out. Nothing like a full drag setup open header car capable of a 13!
Posted by 1fast281 (Member # 4670) on

That's not what I meant when I said drag setup. I meant drag radials, gears and torque converter would put me deep in the 13's. I don't have open headers anyway, the cutouts dump after the two front cats. What would your car run with a 4000lb + race weight?

a 408 with some afr 225's, twin 101mm turbos, slicks, built auto, and 1000lbs of weight reduction would put me in the 8's

You obviously have no idea what a properly setup 4.6 dohc drag setup can do.

Your car runs what 14.7s or so. your not going to knock off 8-9tenths to get you deep into the 13s with DRs,Gears and converter in your car.

Why would I race a car weighing 4000#'s or more? I wouldn't. Doing the math I figure a low 12 on the bottle with an extra (22) 45# plates all over the car. I would probably need F-250 springs all around so that the tires wouldn't be resting against the wheelwells though. Then maybe I'd need some F-250 struts and shocks, and then I'd probably have to reinforce the unibody to handle all that weight. Eventually gets to be kinda pointless no?

I have run back to back 14.5 at Sac, shifting into 3rd gear right before the traps at close to 99mph on Kumhos launching off idle. I know what my car is capable off. I know of a 100% stock Mark VIII with only torque converter and 4.10 gears ran a 13.89. His engine is all stock, not even a K&N or any exhaust work.
I now have some decent Yohohama ES 100's on the car, new msd wires and copper plugs and going to be at Sac testing tomorrow. Hoping for 14.4 or 14.3 with a 2.1 60 foot.

How about what the driver is capable of? Car is only 1/2 the equation...

It doesn't take much skill to race a 4r70w car but with over 50 passes at the track I think i'm a pretty decent driver.

you could add an S-trim to everything you've said so far and still only scratch low 13's at the weight you're describing

My 4600lbs truck runs low 13s. O wait it has a 5.4 with a supercharger.

You must be joking. Do you know how well a 4.6 DOHC responds to boost? There is a Mark VIII with a S-Trim running 6 pounds of boost running mid 12's on drag radials. He does have gears however.

On this site no one cares what you say, until you prove your self. Just ask 93pony. What you need to do is make your car into a 12 sec monster then they will all listen. Until then............
Sorry that is just the way it is on this site an others. You race a car no one else does, plus you talk about other fast Mark 8s all the time. Just my .02 not trying to flame.
BTW se you at the track, I want to check out your car.

right, and there are people with VW bugs with more or less stock motors running 10's. Neither of which car is in question here!
Don't presume to educate me on a ford motor, ok?

my car's stock and its more than a full second faster than yours?
Posted by 1fast281 (Member # 4670) on

Your stock 5.0 is not running a 13.5 1/4 mile.
Hddnos, you are right my car is running low 15's... with a 2.7 60 foot time. This is a Ford sight yet no one has any respect for a luxury sports coupe with a 4.6 dohc engine making 250rwhp and 260lbs factory stock? Not to mention you guys think stock a 5.0 with 180-190rwhp is faster? My friend's 2002 3.5 Altima maks 200rwhp stock lol.
