Thanks to rob aka GOROBGO, we have footage from the Ford-vs-GM race online:
http://www.californiafords.com/mpg/06_14_03/
If you can't view the files:
Download and install these two codecs:
http://download.microsoft.com/download/winmediatech40/Install/8.0/WIN98Me/EN-US/wmpcdcs8.exe
and
http://download.microsoft.com/download/9/8/a/98a6cb2d-6659-485e-b1f9-2c0d9bf6c328/wmv9VCMsetup.exe
The quality isn't the best, but its 56K modem friendly and there A LOT of passes in those files. Check back again late tonight or tomorrow, even more videos will be listed in that directory.
THANKS ROB!

Hmmm, downloaded both of the files sucessfully but still can't connect to the videos.
I first get the Windows Media Player window, then it says "connecting to media", then I get a window that says "The program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down".
I click OK and it shuts the window. Anybody got any ideas?
Thanks

John, upgrade your media player to version 7:

Mine does that too John. The only way around it for me was to right click the video and save as. After downloading it, I could play it.
Thanks for taking the time to do the vids.

Thanks Sawson and Red C5 but neither of those worked for me.

Time to bring out the big guns:
www.microsoft.com/mediaplayer
Download/install media player 9 for what ever version Windows you run.

Any chance at some hi res versions? On CD maybe? The choppy, silent film festival is not cutting it.

Talk to rob. I'm just greatful he did this much. Unless you have a high end camera and computer, encoding video takes a long time to do.

Sawson,
What is that ominous warning I get when I go to download the file that the file could be hazardous to my computer?
Posted by st5150 (Member # 51) on
:
No clue. Its straight from the mothership Microsoft.com. I think its just warning you that the file is an excecutable. I wouldn't worry about it.

I'm glad i could find a way to participate even though i couldn't drive!
lemme try some different settings and see what kind of quality i can come up with and not drop frames all over the place
there is audio on the clips, no silent film fest here, man...

ok, i made new videos, about 4 minutes each.
8MB files.
that should suit most needs.
i'll delete the other videos that havent' been uploaded so i can put up the first big file.
can i email you the files, sawson?
it would make it possible to do it in one shot rather than one at a time.

Rob, check your email, I need the URL again. Won't be able to pull the vids from your server until late morning though.

good videos except when i watch them they pause in parts and just play the sound i don't know if thats my computer or the video itself? When i try to go back it still does it in hte same place.

strange, innit?
it's my computer, not yours.
unless your's is a total pos!
encoding video is very processor-intensive, my little celeron @ 1GHz with 512MB of ram is barely able to cope with the task, but everyone wanted BIGGER files, so that's the best i can do. as i said previously, i will make the tape available to anyone who wishes to copy it.

Hey Rob, see how picky our members are? Imagine if I made these "mistakes", I'd be burned at the stake by now It looks like your hard drive isn't fast enough to capture every single frame at what ever rate you're capturing at. If you step down the sampling a notch or two, you'll be fine.
You've still come a long way from using your quick-cam to record races played back on your TV though

I have some very high end stuff if you guys ever want me to tape some runs and put them on CD let me know. I need some notice though. Also I don't loan the camera out but I am sure you all understand.

I got plenty of space, but I dont how long i could keep it up cause I only get 5 G/Mo of bandwidth. I should be able to get it up temporarily though.

I can help with hosting also. I am only limited to 10mb per file, unlimited bandwith. Let me know if I can help.
