i'm willing to bet my heads flow more air and my supercharger pushes more air and it's half as loud as your car and I have 3" pipe, 2 chamber FM and turn downs. Buy a STREET muffler.

A bunch of my friends are in nor cal SVTOA, Joe DeBattista, Tony Gelardi, Mike Braun, Peter Verducci, Mike Kelly and some others. If you were at the Christmas dinner at harry's hoffbrau then you saw the video Tony, Joe and I made for them.

maybe hes happy with his car and the way it sounds and doesnt G.A.F. what everyone else thinks...its his car and if he likes it and enjoys it then leave him alone...it is a drag strip...loud cars do go there...half of you are probably upset that his tank of a v6 t-bird will have you looking at tail lights...get over it..

Psycho Dave, I'm guessing you haven't heard the car. It's not that it's LOUD it's that the tone is actually painful to hear. I am complaining and there is no chance in hell of me ever seeing his tail lights. It's because hearing the car is unpleasent.

I'm not impressed by a 12 second 6 cylinder with boost. Did anyone see that blue grand national running 8.6s with a v6 and a turbo???? Now that is pretty damn impressive. Sounded great too.

it's a buick t type, not a gnx or grand national. and it's got a full cage and full interior, along with a laptop and tons of other things. it's no lightwieght.
im gonna agree that it's the tone of the car, i'm used to loud cars but this one is ear peircing. i'd much rather listen to a honda with no exhaust.

are you implying that if they swapped motors that the t-bird would still run 12.0 and the buick would still run 8.6s? or have i just helped you realize how stupid it was to use weight as a comparison between a 12 second car and an 8 second car?

if it's 500 flywheel hp then the car would only have to weigh about 3600 lbs.

What?!?

My car weighs 3550 going down the track & dynoed 430RWHP....I pulled 119.x in the 1/4 with a slipping clutch.
Typically a 430RWHP car (just under 500 flywheel) will put a 3500lb car in the 120mph area.

3 inch dynomax race-bullets flow well over 1200cfm each...this thing wouldn't lose any power....but it'd sound a whole lot better!

Still, it is quite impressive to see it in the low 12's....just don't compare it to those T-types. Turbos RULE!

he has an auto, you have a stick, for you 430 hp is just under 500 at the flywheel but for him 415 rwhp is just under 500.

in a 3550 lb car with 430 rwhp the 1/4 et should be AROUND 11.6 @ 118. close to your run isn't it?

in a 3600 lb car with 415 rwhp the 1/4 et should be AROUND 11.96 @ 114. He runs 12 flat at 112.

Get it yet?

Posted by 93PONY (Member # 60) on :

So, you're saying if he loses 50lbs & ups the boost by 1psi, he'll gain 6+mph..... Or if I put an auto in my car (which is ~50lbs heavier then my tremec) I'll run 6-7mph slower.... Don't think so.

FYI, I ran 119.xmph with a slipping clutch.

Posted by Jeff S (Member # 371) on :

FWIW my old 2001 Lightning weighed in at 4780#'s with me in it and made 415.3rwhp through an auto and ran 12.20 @ 110.5mph

I'd seriously hope i'd pick up more than 3.5mph if I dropped 1180#'s!!! [Eek!] [Eek!] [Eek!]

okay I'll bet you $100 you can't drive my mom's 5 speed tercel wagon [worship] faster than me.

Yeah that's right, i'm stuck driving a stick 99% of the time. And I GUARANTEE I can drive it faster than you. I haven't driven an auto in about 2 months and I haven't had a real race with an auto in about 5.

SIR Paint Job w/ '84 TercelOnYoMama,

Lets do it. When are where?

Posted by SIR Paint Job w/ '84 TercelOnYoMama (Member # 1708) on :

i'm not going to let you beat up my mothers car

i'll tell you why i can drive it better than either of you can.

it has 4wd, it has extra low

here is the shifting pattern

EL 1 3 5
2 4 R

you can not launch in EL and then hit 1st gear power shifting 2 seconds after you launch (you can only do about 10 mph in EL).

so when you power shift EL to 1st you're making a complete U turn. trust me i've done it a million times and you wont get it on your first try. keep your money and i'll keep my mom's clutch.

[patriot]

Posted by SIR Paint Job w/ '84 TercelOnYoMama (Member # 1708) on :

the shift pattern came out wrong, 2nd is directly under 1st and 4th is directly under 3rd

I don't really think you offered much of a challenge man, first off, you are offering to race a non street legal car to a bunch of guys and gals with street legal cars. V6, V8, V10, whatever...I applaud you for bitching that car into the 12's, and albeit almost 11's. However, if most people put the time and money into makeing a drag car like I am sure you did, 11's would be pretty consistent all around the board. Jake made his Ram run in the 13's, and that beast weighs quite a bit more than yours, and I know he did it a very small fraction of the cost of what yours was. Good job with the car, mufflers or no mufflers. now I offer a challenge to you...make it street legal and run similar times, and then we will talk.

I disagree 100%, the guy has a stock looking turbocoupe heading for the mid 11's, slap a pair of mufflers on it and everyone would shut up.

A 12.0 car is a 12.0 car, I appreciate his post.

I don't think it's a turbocoupe [Roll Eyes] Pretty sure it's an SC Bird...Maybe the owner can fill us in on how streetable the car is...mufflers can always be added...he's probably trying to tune her up good and ready....and then deal with the minor details later.

My questions for Jim are:

1. Is it street legal? (I am guessing it's not because smogchecks are part of registration...but would be amazing if it did pass smog)

2. How is the streetability?

Posted by ihatethesesns (Member # 684) on :

My guess is that it's supercharged seeing the title of the topic an all.

Posted by GONE14S (Member # 2479) on :

Jims Jr. car is not reg. at this time. Although it will pass smog with know problems.
The exhaust is removeable.
They are running the car with open headers just to tune the motor itself.
They are not running a tunnig chip as of yet.
The car is running on motor and the modds only.

They will be tunning the car with the exhaust in awhile, as soon as they have all the bugs work out of the motor.

Yes, the SC t-bird is super charged.

It is hard to do tunning when Sac.Race way
is so packed.

my friend's 4 cyl mustang paces with it, if he beats you, you lose. if it's a matter of a tenth of a second then that means we drive the same and there is no winner, thousands of a second dont really mean anything to me.

i'm not about to drive that piece of shit 2 hours to pay $40 to run 22s at the track. I made the bet i make the rules, i told YOU where to meet and you didnt reply to my post until AFTER the weekend although you had time to post at 9am on the 22nd and just ignore my challenge. Sounds like you're scared. So are you taking me up on my offer or what?
I'm not about to go out of my way to prove to you that I can drive this car better than you when I already know I can.

Hopefully you'll reply before next month,
Chris

Posted by shade-tree (Member # 298) on :

pacing? LMAO. Surely you can think of a less accurate method? G-tech is better than that...

when you want to run it somewhere that it can be measured, let me know so I can collect my $100.

I had already said where I'd be: Sac raceway, obviously you chose to change that.

How about this? Take any 5-speed (or 6-speed) car, bring it to Sac. I'll beat you in it and take your $100.
