karen seems to have a stereotypical meaning...and in the linked news story, i didnt know renters can do that to the rental property that they share with several other renters in that SF building, but hey it is san francisco.

That's the problem. It's been way overused now. It's just like saying "asking for a friend?" or "that's what she says."
