Just curious if anyone has done it? Do you always need to SMOG the car to be able re-register it (my 96 cobra has been in Non-op status for almost 2 years)?

How picky are the people SMOGing cars these days?
I currently have stock exhaust with welded-on magnaflow magnapack and Ford Racing shorty headers.
FR headers are unlikely to pass SMOG, isn't it? And the magnapack are going to be too loud?
I also have a Performance tune from a SCT hand tuner but I can revert back to stock and drive it for a while to clear the tune before taking it to a SMOG place.

Thanks for the info in advance! [Smile]

if the headers don't have a CARB number you'll fail visual. unless someone overlooks them. you will want to go back to stock on the SCT tuner and drive it for 50-100 miles to get everything back to normal. get the car nice and hot before you smog it and you should be fine.

You might get away with the headers since there is barely any space to see then anyways

Ah alright, thanks, that doesn't sound too bad. So I take it that noise usually isn't an issue?
Any idea how much it would be to replace the shorty headers with the stock ones (I think I have the stock ones somewhere)? $200 or so?

Thanks so much for the help [Smile]

Sound shouldn't be an issue i dont think they test the db levels at all unless it goes to the REF or certain tracks but you shouldn't have issues if you have cats on with the DB level

like Wht86drop said you can probably get away with the shorties due to limited visibility. If you need to remove the shorties hit up Jeremy Sacstangdriver Probably will be the cheapest to swap out the headers

Swapping those headers are a bitch! You might as well try your luck with a smog station and see if you can gwt away with it
