I have been in the process of doing a 3g conversion on my mustang and today i was looking at my alternator and thought to myself i want to powder coat the casings of the alternator.


I was thinking bright red because my car is red and coat the radiator brackets gloss black.

What do you guys think???

Na makes it look cheap & hacked up..like when you see someone selling a fox with "rebuilt engine. 306 hella mods" and all its is a stock engine with stock parts.. silver or black would be my choice

anything else in the engine bay painted red? I think as long as its "flowing" with other red pieces and not a bunch of different color reds it should look fine..Just my opinion

Another consideration. If you're planning on someday adding a blower, then no one will even be able to see the alternator...

Depending on the style of blower you may see it

I do plan on someday to put a blower on it, but who knows when i will be able to do that.

I will probably go gloss black because I plan on coating my intake, when i get the one i want, gloss black as well, and i wouldnt want my alternator casings red when everything else is gloss black.

@ed650 Do you really think it will make it look cheap?

Maybe this will help you see better: "hey guys you have to check out my 3G alternator, I painted it red to match my car, it's badass huh?"

Underhood should be black or chrome/polished anything else is tacky.

Lol!!!

I would honestly leave it alone. Whenever I see pics of an engine bay with painted parts in it I quickly exit out of the page. Ghetto.

Hmmm maybe i will go gloss black and if i don't like it i will just take if off. Im powdercoating it myself so i won't be out much, just material.
