On the freeway at a steady pace i can run my defrost but at a stop the car shits off. Also when i turn the car completley off after running the heater/defrost theres a hissing noise for 15 to 20 after the car has been turned off even after i have switched the heater to off inside the car.I also notice my battery light keeps flashing when first driving in the morning after sittin over night. Battery is new and alt passed test. I have an 01 gt. 4.6 with bbk throttle body. Could a vacum leak cause this?

I'd say most def a vaccum leak check all the 1/8" hard vacum lines i guarentee one is cracked or even chewed by mice. follow the ones that run passengers side engine bay through the shock tower area they can some times get worn in that area. you will find one of these lines to be the problem for sure

My vote is for the A/C compressor failing. Putting such a load on the motor it kills it at low rpms. Belt is having trouble moving making the alternator not charge as good.

I'd check the defroster fluid, it's probably low.

How do you set the timing?

You should have used ATF for the defroster fluid. Check that first.
