I think fines should be similar to a DUI and licenses should be suspended for a year, I have an idea that should be taken nation wide, anyone caught texting should have to buy a custom plate that identifies the driver as an offender so people know to keep their distance.

+1 I got it. The key is to learn how to text without looking, and thanks to autocorrect it corrects the words I misspell. The worst texters are the ones who "drive" and are just looking straight down texting a whole essay because they'll literally look down for like a minute straight.

A text messaging violation should be 2 points on your driver's record.

As someone who commutes on a bike, it's quite infuriating to split lanes by stopped traffic and looking into mirrors I see people looking straight at their phone in their lap. I've had people accidentally move into me because they were looking at their phones, I usually just give their windows a slight tap and shame them a little.
For the ones that are actually a danger to me, well off goes their mirror. I've taken three so far.

Your handle could come in very appropriate in an obituary.

I see people texting and driving all day in Hayward. If I cannot pull over and I am not stopped in traffic I can say the wake up command on my Galaxy S4 phone and tell it to send a message to someone. HANDS FREE BABY! (as long as you leave it in your visor)
I have seen many bikers almost get hit or cut off from people not paying attention. 90% of the time i look at these drivers they have their head looking into their lap.
Stay safe people!

I drive my rig from hilltop in the rich to the Oakland airport 4 times a day, back and fourth from 08:00 to about 18:30. I see soo much shit I have a dash cam to record it just in case someone wants to play chicken with a big rig. Me and eight other drivers do the same thing since February 5 days a week and no accidents. Safety safety saftey and trying to figure what other drivers are going to do. Remember the gap in front of us isn't for drivers to get in, it's in case the person in front of us slams on the breaks. Rant over.

I had dumb ass Asian dude in a Prius hold up the fast lane on 101 while he was looking straight down typing a story. He was going 65 and swerving side to side but wouldn't put the f'kn phone down. If I wasn't late for work I would've got his attention to get off the f'kn phone.

I'm more offended by the idiots who hold their phones in front of them on speaker phone. Almost assuredly thinking that they're legal.

If I get caught texting while driving my rig the fines can be up to $2700 because of the class A so I just wait to text
