a's are going balls out this year..all or nothing. it is an expensive rent to pay for a pitcher that will be a free agent end of the year but if they do win it all this year, beane will look like a genius. in reality, theyre losing a guy in cespy who would be gone end of 2015. the a's have lots of other offensive options and could use help in the rotation to go one on one with some of the elite pitching rotations(i.e tigers, dodgers, etc). they sure have that rotation now. 4 solid acest hat would be #1 on many teams and a coulpe #5 legit pitchers to choose from such as chavez, pomeranz. just hope they dont choke like the past years.

Cespes was going to book it anyways. Word is Lester is going to Resign with the Red sox come this off season. So he's a rental, but A's are going all in NOW.

I love the trade.. regardless if lester is being "rented". Cespedes has a very low on base percentage which is somewhere around .300 .. we need to get someone that can get on base more as well as cover more ground in the outfield. Beane is going all in now because it's the best time to do so being the team with the best record in baseball and already having 3 "ace-like" starting pitchers. Cespedes is a free agent after next year, he hasn't been producing as much as they'd like.. so you ask why? Cespedes can always be replaced.. and the only way to beat anybody in the playoffs is mostly by out-pitching them. Pitching> hitting

Cespedes would be gone after the 2015 season anyway. He'd get a big money contract elsewhere that the A's could NEVER match. He's fresh off his 2nd All-Star home run derby win, has some decent numbers and was worth something to Boston. Better to get something for him now rather than have him walk and get nothing. The A's got two good guys and money out of the deal. Any true A's fan knew this day was coming, it's all just a question of when.

giants aint doing shiet this year considering all the holes they have on their team.
1/3 of the team is AAA caliber(panic, colvin, duval, adriana, hicks...seriously?)
pitching staff has seen better days - madbum their ace is mid 3 ERA, despite a strong start to the season hudson has been struggling, cain is about to have season ending surgery, timmy has shown some glimmers of hope but we're always left thinking timmy is gonna figure it out, voggie has been decent but is really a #4-5 pitcher in the rotation. the giants mo has always been a strong pitching staff to carry the team but they are so far from that while their offense has been hobbling.
injuries have been killing the team yet sabean has failed on adding some reasonable depth to the team. what was sabean thinking by adding only a couple pieces to the 2013 team would get them back to contention?
sad to say, this season is pretty much over for them....they have been hemorrhaging since pagan went down and there is no signs of them keeping pace w/ the dodgers. we can all live in the past but lets talk about where the giants are today. they suck this year.

Good trade IMO, getting rid of cespedes when he's worth the most. He's coming off his 2nd HR derby victory and is a bigger name than what he is actually producing at the moment. Beane would have traded him in the offseason anyway for less.

It always boils down to A's fans and their attendance figures. Nobody shows up to the games, nobody supports the team, the team gets no money and cannot afford to get serious about championships when they can barely keep the lights on.
