So the smog tech won't pass the car and informed me that the previous owner cut a lot of stuff and had it as a "race" engine. Pretty much jerry rigged the entire engine bay and hacked everything up.

I tried contacting the previous owner for selling me the car illegally (completely different subject)and she changed her phone number and doesnt live at the address it was registered to. (got scammed I guess) [Frown]

So anyways, my reason for posting is now I need to have someone figure what parts are needed and pay someone to install. I live in Brentwood. I would be willing to drive the car locally and leave it for you to work on if needed. Thanks in advance for any help.

You can contact the DMV and report them, its the sellers responsibility to smog. Believe it or not.

Why would you buy it without a smog cert in California? You didn't get scammed, you just didn't do it right.

So wait, because YOU bought a car that was modded and doesnt pass smog. Your saying you got scammed ? LOL..

Maybe next time before you go buy a car you will atleast look it over more , or know what your looking at.

To the 2 guys saying I shouldn't have bought it,etc. Please read CA state laws about purchasing a registered ,current vehicle.
I also have an entire message saved with her stating it passes smog and showed me receipts for whole new exhaust (cats, mufflers, pipes, etc)so that she could smog it before selling.. but she couldn't because she said the starter went out and she didn't want to spend $300 to fix it, she said it would pass no problems guaranteed. So I went and towed it home that night (big mistake,my bad) and had everything in writing, replaced starter. I then found out the motor was seized!
I called her she said she will refund my money, but since then has moved, and changed her phone #
That's why I say I got scammed, not to mention she knew it won't pass smog, and motor was fucked, and last but not least I just found out it has all smog lines and all that crap removed, bypassed, or cut in half. Lol so that's why I need someone looking for sidework to come check it out and fix it. #end rant.

You did get scammed, no matter how good a deal you never pay running car money on a non running car. Hopefully you didnt give them much and luckily 5.0 motors are cheap to replace, relatively speaking.

If you paid 2k for it and it won't pass and needs a bunch of parts. You may want to think about the C.A.P. Program. You car retire the car and get paid 1,000. Just something to think about.

If all else fails I'm in Rosville and a smog tech. Best of luck.

I have a 100% stock 88 coming in that's going to be parted and it never had a problem passing smog , if you want the smog parts from that, but I can't remember if the vacuum line layout is different on 87
