I'm looking to buy a 2nd house, and its very competitive in the Bay Area right now. I was looking to buy in the Peninsula and a day later I realized that was not going to happen..LOL. Average home price is 1.2M.
Now I'm looking in around the East Bay - even Oaktown! Yes, Oakland actually has some nice neighborhoods.

According to warthorse and all the other Fox News supporters Oakland is just a shithole that needs to be nuked, no way are there nice neighborhoods in Oakland, it's unfortunate that people are so simple minded.

Ha Ha I don't think it should be nuked. That would radiate the whole area. Every town has good neighborhoods. I don't live in the ghetto. I live in a nice street close by Uop. With a nice old trees. And f.y.i. I paid $335,000 for my house.

Median home price is a shitty statistic.
It is the exact middle of the data, I'd feel better
seeing a mean house price guide
If you had 11 house worth 150k and 10 house worth 1.2 mil,
The median would be 150k.

What do crimes committed in Chicago have to do with Oakland, nothing at all, but someone who sees the world through their glass bellybutton may understand.

Real estate in the 209 area code is in the toilet due to brutal commutes, high foreclosure rates, high crime and high unemployment. The 209 area is a shitty place to live. Even worse, several 209 cities are make it onto Forbes "most miserable cities" list.
The 10 criteria by which Forbes judged each city were judged are as follows:
Average unemployment rate between 2009 and 2011
Median commute times to work for 2010 based on U.S. Census data
Violent crimes per capita from the FBI's crime report
Success of pro sports teams over the past three seasons
Change in median home price between 2008 and 2011
Foreclosure rates in 2011 from RealtyTrac
Property tax rates based on median real estate taxes paid and median home values in 2010 per the U.S. Census.
Corruption based on convictions of public officials over the past decade by the Public Integrity Section of the U.S. Department of Justice
Income tax rates
Weather in relation to temperature, precipitation and humidity
Following are the 20 most miserable cities in America according to Forbes:
Miami, FL
Detroit, MI
Flint, MI
West Palm Beach, FL
Sacramento, CA
Chicago, IL
Ft. Lauderdale, FL
Toledo, OH
Rockford, IL
Warren, MI
Stockton, CA
Cleveland, OH
Lansing, MI
Akron,OH
Merced, CA
Memphis, TN
Bakersfield, CA
Vallejo, CA
Modesto, CA
Gary, IN
Bottom line is that the 209 area is a sewer. Therefore don't want to live in the 209 area.
