how is it? this might sound naive, but being from the city i always wondered how it is living in an area where it is not as urban...pros cons? also what attractions/resturants are there in the area

Brentwood > Pittsburg
And this Pittsburg doesn't have an H. Peeps from that area call it Picksburg or at least that's how I hear it.

Dope man can you answer the question about the life in the city? What there is/isn't the pros cons it's similarities to sf and it's differences.

You see a lot of Paisa's in Pittsburg.... & a lot of pirates hats LOL.

Way cheeper rent, more parking , flat geography, way hotter Summers , things are a bit more spread out. Just a few things I have noticed about P town, and east county in general. Growning up in SF , I have seen the difference for myself. My car feels a whole lot faster smashing through my old hood . The streets seem more small.

Pittsburg has come a long way in the last 10 years. They are really cleaning up the place as well as working on it's reputation. By no means is it Danville or Alamo (we still have a Wal-Mart!!), but it's getting cleaned up/built up. There are quite a few nice "mom and pop" restaurants with some other bigger names like La Veranda, La Pinata, Mecca and EJ Phair's.
Plenty of shopping centers around the area like the Antioch Mall/Sommersville Ave and tons of new stores on Lone Tree Way in Antioch/Brentwood. (new within the last 5 years)
Sorry to disappoint ya'll....this is not your typical CAFords response. I actually tried to answer the question!!!

Do not move to antioch!!! That's all I would suggest. I've lived in each town from Pitt to antioch to Brentwood to Oakley. I by far like Pittsburg the best antioch has gone to shit and if you keep good people around you Pittsburg won't do you any harm Brentwood is really chill has a lot of new attractions like a outside walk around mall antioch mall is desolate as can be Oakley is nice also. Bart is being pulled all the way to Oakley in the near future freeway widening is underway as we speak the bus company runs a healthy service so not much to complain about except antioch is being over run by kids with guns that think they are tough.

It's cheap, Pittsburg is better than Antioch, too much traffic, I lived in Pittsburg for 24 years and I couldn't wait to move out and there is no way I would let my kids go to school there.

Your better off just living in Martinez/concord area, it's a little expensive but it's worth it. Little cooler than Pitt/Antioch and a lot of nice older folks out here. Also a lot of gear heads out here, every garage you either see a hot rod or sports car.

Brentwood is alright but I prefer living a small distance from all of it rather than really close to one part of it. In Brentwood it's a mix of White and Spanish. In Pittsburg you get a whole meting pot. Also Brentwood has a lot of little kids in daddys big truck trying to show off and ruin their daddy's tires. Im telling you man. An older part of Pittsburg is were its at but a nice quite neighborhood in Brentwood isn't bad at all. 67-three lives in a nice area in the wood. Me and trickflow211 live on the same block in Pittsburg and I would say we both like/love it. 925gt lives in antioch down the street from the police station and it still gets ratchet as fuck lol but he's smart about his life. Anyways all I'm trying to say is live where you want YOU decide for yourself how it all plays out by watching who you keep around you and what you do

If your looking for a good town to raise a family then choose brentwood. Even though it has grown quite a bit in the last 15 years it still has a home town feeling. I have grown up in Pittsburg and antioch, by far brentwood has been my favorite place to live. It's got plenty of shopping and good local spots to eat at too.

Brentwood is know for its cornfest during July. That's its biggest festival during the year. It's got all the common chain stores and resturants. Pretty much all the stores you see anywhere else.

Red Robin, BJ's, Mel's Diner, plenty of Starbucks, digital movie theatre (one Imax screen, I believe). Buffalo Wild Wings, Johnny Carinos, Walgreens, Best Buy, huge Target, B&N, Kohls, etc etc.
Check Google maps for all the stores near the intersection of Lone Tree & Walnut Blvd. Then check for all the stores off Sand Creek. Then theres other smaller more quaint places downtown.
Downside: Highway 4 is ABSOLUTE HELL. I hate it, and I exit in Pittsburg.

The pittsburgh/brentwood area going to be a cheaper area to live in San Francisco, but that's not a good thing. pittsburgh and brentwood are cheap places to live in because they are shit holes.
In Brentwood, its a land of strip malls and culdisacks and that means everything is spread out so you cant really walk to anything so you have to hop into the car to go to the store. Not good at all. A lot of the streets are shitty for walking since they were designed for car use instead of people who want to walk.
Traffic stinks in the pittsburgh/brentwood area, especially Brentwood since brentwood has no train rail or reliable bus transit service. If you live in Brentwood, you will probably turn into a fat fuck because you will start to drive everywhere and you wont have time to do anything else because you drive too much.
Get ready to become fatter, dumber, and look older because you will sit in traffic wasting your life away.

From the perspective of a lifelong resident of Antioch, I cant wait to get the fuck out. It seems to only be getting worse. As Marks93 said, Pittsburg has the right idea, things there are getting much better. Oakley is more small and quaint, not much there. Brentwood is probably the best choice. Its just going to be a safer area to live in.

You took the opportunity to provide an accurate and informative answer and turned it into a biased, useless post. What do you provide to society, seriously? Where is the statistic that shows smaller sidewalks make you stupid and fat? If you want to become a useless sack of shit, its your decision. Only a dumbass would blame it on the size of sidewalks.

You are a fuckin idiot.
Car commuting makes you fat because when you drive, you are not exercising and with no good transit options available in subruban locations like Brentwood, you will be doing a lot of driving so you will become fatter. Second, driving in traffic is stressful and it causes rage and anger. When the mind is subjected stress, rage and anger on a daily basis, the parts of the human brain respnsible for thought and reason becaome damaged. You become stupider. The stress from car commuting and zero exercise, walking will raise your blood pressure and hardern your blood vessels so you will die sooner.
Streets built with walking in mind are nice to look at and are great places to hang out and meet people. Wakling keeps you fit and social interaction and being happy are good for the mind.
A typical street optimized for car use instead of people in a shit hole cities were everything is spread out. Who the fuck would want to walk on a street like this?
A much better street like you will find in San Francisco thats good for walking and hanging out and enjoying life.

Think about this, all of the places were everything is spread out and the streets are shit for walking but good for moving a lot of car traffic like Brentwood, stockton, home prices went down the toilet during the housing crises while places more densly packed like San Francisco have actually have seen home prices go up. Why is that?

Why would you want to live in a crowded place anyways? With hella smelly ass people and small ass apartments ever notice how SF really doesn't have big houses? Ever think that people with big families or want to start a family would want a bigger house for cheap? You're just a dumbass. You don't deserve that cobra

As far as 24 hour stuff there isn't much. Safeway, wallgreens are open. Not sure about the Starbucks. I know jack in the box is open 24 hours for all your drunkin cravings. Most places are closed past 12pm. Besides the bars. Oh and for cobraracer this town is covered to bike lanes and trails for all your exercise needs. Being active is a life style. I have seen plenty of fat asses and stressed out people in SF.

You are missing my point. What sucks about cities Like Brentwood is that you really cant walk to where you need to go because the Cul de sack niehboorhoods are far from stores, bars what ever place you want to go.
If you want to buy a case of beer for example, you need to drive to the store because it's too fuckin far to walk. You need a car to go anywhere because everthing is so spread out. That's a problem
Since most people in Brentwood work far from the city and no good public transportation is available, you will be spending a lot of time commuting in a car and thats a big problem because car commuting has been proven to make you fatter and dumber.
You know whats going to happen when gas prices get too fuckin high or you become too old to drive in a city like Brentwood where you need to drive everywhere because you cant walk to were you want to go?
You will be fucked!
I live in a place were I dont need to use a car to go to super market. I just walk or ride a bike to the store while the Cobra collects dust in the garage.

I think I know what part of Antioch everyone is talking about, but I lived out on the "other side" for 15 years and dont have any complaints. I lived on the "newer" side close to Deer Valley and it was a really nice & quiet neighborhood. Movies, grocery stores, restaurants, fast food, parks, etc. were all really close by.. A lot of gear heads in my old neighborhood as well.. Moved out about 5 years ago so maybe things have changed. But my parents still live their and when I go out there, it seems to be just as nice & quiet as before.
The other side of antioch towards the numbered & lettered streets is a different story though! I would never move to that side of antioch!

Brentwood is nice. High property tax, good schools, and based on the socioeconomic status of most residents you can take a guess as far as the level of tranquility within the city. There are many stores & restuarants on Sand Creek (streets of Brentwood) and another decent sized shopping center intersection off Balfour (& Brentwood Ave, I believe). There should be enough to keep you entertained on the weekends, but drives out to SF will be lengthy when you do venture out. Discovery Bay is probably nice enough visit on occasion, though.

About 6 or so years ago Antioch voted to allow section 8 in. And even the nicer parts of Antioch like deer valley turned into bad parts. Car jackings, home invasions, shootings etc. Oakley voted it down. Also pittburg got rid of a lot of the section 8 and cleaned up downtown.

Antioch has been a shit since I was a kid. Been in this area for 41 years.
Have you ever thought that you might be part of the problem?

Am I the only one who agrees with cobraracer? Antioch is a dump, Pittsburghis a dump, Oakley is a dump and Brentwood is not really a dump but its out in butt fuck Egypt. Out of all places Brentwood would be my choice but only if my job was 20-35 minutes away,

Unless driving is your job commuting more than 30 minutes each way is torture on your life, body and mental health. When you think about it if your job includes you sitting down most of the day and then having to sit to drive back home then sit your ass at home while you watch tv. You can easily sit your life away. Sitting is worse than smoking at that point.
As far as the east bay life, I wouldn't know enough about the area to give a good opinion.

agree w/ cobra as well to a certain point w/out being a dick about it and wouldnt live in any of these areas based on my situation now but thats a choice we make.
its easy to bash on these areas cuz theyre not the most ideal places to live relatively speakin but the reality is we are limited to certain areas mainly due to $$$.
of the 3 places from what ive heard, brentwood sounds like a nicer place to live compared to the other hoods and just based on first impressions driving through these places.
