Cut 2 3/4" off each end of housing, added 9" big bearing ends, full coil overs and mini-tubs. Was a lot of work and glad it's finally done.

All the hard work looks like it paid off. Carpet job came out great too.

Very nice! Did you do this yourself John?

Posted by John91coupe (Member # 18) on :

Thanks guys. Did everything myself except for shortening the housing and adding the new ends. There's a fixture to keep the housing straight that cost $550 so I had it done for $175.

Would you happen to have more pics during the cutting/welding/fitting of tubs? What roll cage setup are you running? Keep lookin at the pics,so clean, this car kills it..

Thanks again guys. warhorse - Couple of reasons for 2 pumps. When I put this fuel system together there were not a lot of options for big pumps back then and I was driving it on the street. I was running with one voltage regulated pump on the street and using both at the track. Too much invested now to change to a single pump (Dual Teflon fuel lines, filters, etc).

Duncan - I spot welded the tubs in place every inch or so then used structural caulking to seal any gaps and make it really solid. Didn't weld the torque box brackets because welding was done on the outside factory brackets.

No, sorry I don't. I was so wrapped up in getting it done because of the headache I didn't want to be reminded with pictures. Glad it was a once in a lifetime event.

Cage is a mongrel. Half Wolfe (front) half modified Art Morrison (hoop back). I modded the trunk bars to mount by the shock towers.

I'm gonna say I have 300 hrs into it. It was just me for 99% of it, on the garage floor half the time. The other half crammed into the back seat area and trunk. The up side is I thought I'd have to modify the trunk hinges but they were fine, at least with the Wolfe tubs. How far along are you?

LOOKS LIKE A BEAST

ALSO, GREAT FUEL SYSTEM.

Well that's good to know about the hinges lol were using the Team Z kit, similar setup as yours,we got all the old junk out (rearend, control arms, etc) and started cutting the old tubs out as of now lol not much but were aware of the task at hand and it's some drama but well worth it in the end I'd say...my uncle who owns the car has already purchased a Fab9 rear end narrowed 2" each side, strange center,33 or 35 spline axles (can't remember what spline),full team z kit (control arms,tubs,anti-roll bar,and strut re location bar) just a matter of getting hours in on the car as of now..

Notching the frame too with that kit? That part was interesting. Nice instructions with the Wolfe kit....non existent.

One thing I suggest if you haven't already done it. Remove all the spot welded brackets on the factory tubs first. I did one side at a time hoping I would learn from the first and found doing this made the second side easier.

Who cut the rear end for u? I'm in the step right now. Did they do your axles to or did you special order them.

Yes notching the frame as-well,the team z kit has very detailed large picture, full measurement instructions so well see how it goes, thanks again for all the input

I had Strange do my axles and these guys cut and weld the ends on. I'm pretty sure these guys can do the axles also.

I may have that MM&FF issue lying around somewhere with your car on it. I remember how happy I was as a freshmen in HS to see a local guy on the cover.

Cool to see you still have the car and that you're still tinkering with it to this day.

When I cut my tubs out and notched my frame it was easier to drill all the spot welds out on all the brackets and slap them off with a hammer then get in they're and start cutting . I wanna say I cut right where the c channel part of the frame is pinch welded to the trunk pan part not cutting into the pinch welded part. And then about 3/4 of an inch inward from the quarter panel. Its easy just have to take your time and use an assortment of cutting tools and watch out when that body foam shit they have in they're gets hot it will flame up easily

This made me laugh. John, I've met you at the track before - and from what I remember, you are not a small guy .... can't imagine you having to be crammed into the 'back seat' [Smile]

Looks great - every time I'm back home visiting and go to the track, I always hope to see you there .... hasn't happened in a while, but - there's always next time! Great car and good luck next time you take it out.

Are you gonna be in town this Saturday?
