Just got my rate plans for 2014, starting December my family rates are almost double. Sure seems like this fucking idiot wants all self employed people out of business. Must be great that I will have to pay $1200 a month for absolutely shit benefits that require me to foot the bill for every dr. visit up to 6k a year in individual costs while illegals will still continue to get shit for free!!! Fuck you Obama, and all your stupid ass supporters who continue to drive this country to shit!!!

Im saying this half facetiously, but more and more its the way you have to do things. If you are going to be a creator, innovator, i.e. own your business; and not work for a county, state, federal department or a large corporations half subsidized by the gov't, Cash is fucking king...again this is in jest, than you go out and get your paid for entitlements because you apparently have no income. Although, I worry about the day when currency is no longer a tangible commodity and it only exists in electronic form. Ayn Rand is becoming more and more prophetic.

I guess it would almost be cheaper to pay the 2500 penalty and take a chance with no insurance. Or you could just renounce your citizenship, become and undocumented citizen & hit the emergency room for free service.

It's simple mathematics. You CANNOT provide health insurance for 30 million more people who don't have it or don't want it without raising the insurance rates for those that have it. When Obama said insurance rates would go down, you could keep your current doctor's and current insurance, he was either a lying SOB or the stupidest mother fucker on the planet. I think it's both.

Who? All of those who are exempt from being forced to take it. Others pay the monetary penalty if they decline to take it. The rest who have insurance will pay more.
1.Individuals who cannot afford coverage. For 2014, this means people who cannot afford health insurance because the premium (based on the lowest-cost Bronze plan, or the individual's share of an employer-sponsored plan) exceeds 8 percent of their household income. After 2014, the Secretary of Health and Human Services may revise the threshold.
2.Individuals with household income below the filing threshold. This means anyone who doesn't have to file a federal income tax return.
3.Members of federally recognized Indian tribes. The Federal Register maintains a list of federally recognized Indian tribes.
4.Individuals who experience a hardship. According to Healthcare.gov, potential hardships may include being homeless, filing for bankruptcy, being a recent victim of domestic violence, or having been evicted in the past six months, among many others.
5.Individuals who experience a short coverage gap. In general, this means a lapse in coverage of less than three months in a calendar year.
6.Members of certain religious sects. Also sometimes called the "religious conscience" exemption, these religious sects must be recognized by the Social Security Administration as being "conscientiously opposed to accepting any insurance benefits," the IRS explains. As described in Section 1402 of the tax code, these sects must have been in existence since at least December 31, 1950.
7.Members of a health care sharing ministry. Qualified nonprofit health care sharing ministries must meet the tax code's definition of such a group, and must have been in existence since at least December 31, 1999.
8.Incarcerated individuals. This includes people in jail, prison, and other penal institutions.
9.Individuals who are not lawfully present. This means anyone who is not a U.S. citizen or national.
Also throw in the congress (exempt), and some unions and businesses (temporarily).

No such thing as "free". Someone else is paying for that free. An example is Sweden. Lots of "free" stuff in Sweden. Medical care, housing, food subsidies, etc. Maximum tax rate in Sweden is 75%. Could do the same thing in America but then it would be Amerika. It's called Socialism.

Health insurance providers. After all, they're the ones that wrote the bill.

I think it's ironic that, under this system, the healthcare providers will be 'penalized' for making too much $$ in income. So, how do you propose that doctors/dentists/etc with tons of student-loans try and pay them back in a reasonable amount of time when you're cut back to $80k-ish per yr?
People say and think that doctors and dentists are always 'rich' because of how much they make, when in actuality, many/most will be paying back somewhere in the neighborhood of $500k taking into consideration principal+interest over a 10yr payback period.
Will be interesting to see how this all plays out...

Wow, I remember I was complaining when I was in Australia and I had to take a mandatory health coverage at $150/month due to my sponsor requirements. This was 100% health coverage on all doctors costs and prescription medicine (excluding dental) and I thought it was stupidly overpriced (at the time), heh.
Medical costs in the US without insurance are beyond stupid regardless...

Simply put its fuck up that there are many Americans without health coverage and therefore get sick and die because they cant afford to see a doctor while at the same time, these no good filthy greedy fuckin republicans mooch off us by enjoying free health care.
This country has some serious health problems. The US ranks 37th in life expectancy and health costs way too much. In japan, an ambulance ride is free. here in the US, it costs 1800. In Canada, health care is free, in the US it costs a lot.

So what happens if you already have insurance through your employer? What then? We had someone from HR come and try to explain this to us but she was more confused than I am. I understand those who would profit from this plan but what about those not in the list that already have insurance. I also heard the penalty for not having insurance the first year is $300 deducted from your tax returns.

Its sad that many americans cant afford healthcare specially in this country. To give an idea on how much hospital charged and I know cause I work in one. A simple IV bag cost at most $5. But if it gets used for a patient he gets charged $105. Its not so much obamacare its big companies taking advantage and fucking up the middle man.

This is where it gets really confusing. Most employers don't completely understand it either. I think a lot depends on how much more it will cost the employer for your insurance. There are no hard numbers for that yet but lots of studies have said it will increase and in some cases increase a LOT. I think employers will have the option to swallow the cost increase, pass it on to you by some percentage, drop your coverage and pay the penalty (probably cheaper then paying for the insurance). In that case you will need to find your own and pay for it yourself or pay a penalty. Or the employer may choose to reduce your hours below 30 and make you a part time employee. In that case they are not responsible to insure you. This option is being used by large numbers for new workers. Not exactly sure but it's like 8 to 1 part time for every full time new hire. It's a cluster fuck of monumental proportions!
One estimate of the cost changes.

That's one of the justification for Obamacare. The big markup for stuff like that is to cover the costs of people using the emergency room for care that don't have insurance. I paid $5 for a single tablet of 400mg Magnesium one time (well my insurance paid it) and a whole bottle of 50 cost $7 in a drug store. Only time will tell whether the increased cost for Obamacare is greater then the cost of inflated emergency care prices but for sure the health insurance companies are loving it either way.

" 1) California: 58,000 will lose their plans under Obamacare. The first bomb dropped in California with a mass exodus from the most populated state’s Obamacare exchange. Aetna, the country’s third largest insurer, left first in July and was closely followed by UnitedHealth. Anthem Blue Cross pulled out of California’s Obamacare exchange for small businesses as well.
Fifty-four percent of Californians expect to lose their coverage, according to an August poll."

CobraRacer (and others who take similar views) - gotta tell you how this stuff is experiencing people directly, in the real world in actual hands-on situations. I was at work today (I'm in Ohio for the next six weeks), and I heard some of the huge downsides of the new healthcare system being explained by an OBGYN to one of his patients. Now, you can call his political affiliation into question, but I guess I'd just ask you to try and look at how this stuff actually affects the PATIENTS in all aspects of healthcare.
Under the new legislation, some of the previously-instituted routine healthcare screening is now going to be rationed. By that, I mean that mammograms, Pap smears, PSA levels, etc, are now going to be regulated such that routine screening will be started later and ended earlier in an attempt to save government spending. Rationing healthcare on the basis of evidence-based medicine has its merits - and yea, sure, if routine screening costs $XX dollars and saves 'only' one or two lives outta 10,000 - it kinda makes sense....until you or your family member becomes one of those casualties. From an economics standpoint, sure, some of it does make sense. But at the same time, there's an awful lot that doesn't. I'd like to hear your response - however rational or irrational - just to see if you're willing to drop some of the hatred and propaganda and see things from an actual hands-on point-of-view.
Thanks

There is nothing free bro. You think the ambulance driver in Japan is a volunteer? You think all the doctors in Canada work for fuckin beer eh?
The money comes from somewhere and in the Obama care instance it is coming from us in the form of higher premiums.
I'm not a cold heart. There are some instances where I believe some should qualify for subsidized health care, but Obama care has way to many loop holes and ways for people to take advantage.
I'm sure the government will do a great job running health care, look at the fantastic job they do with other institutions like the DMV, Social Security, Public Education etc... /sarcasm

I guess the real cost is going to be when we file our taxes.
