Sorry to hear about that and hopefully your ok. At least you have their plate number and the police can try to track them down.

Fortunately it will most likely go uninvestigated. Unless you or especially an independent witness can make a positive ID of the driver nothing will be prosecuted.

+1 Same thing happened to me a few months back dude left his license plate under our hood and well they started saying "well if you can't identify the persons face we can't go after no one."

Who said it CAN'T be done? The resources allocated to accident investigations are prioritized by severity. Simply put, blame budget cuts!

Your confusing to different issues here...

property damage only (OP's case) vs. an injury (pedestrian) the injury takes priority over just a property damage report.
