Looking at a 1997 328i and wanted to see if anybody has owned one here. Would you recommend them? The one I'm looking at is a hard top automatic. 128,000 miles. Any common problems to look for?

I've been searching CL for an E36 and E39 for a beater. Not sure on the E36's but the E39's have plastic radiators that apparently don't last for shit. Also, the power seats have a cable issue where the back won't adjust or will twist. It's a simple fix, but it's a bit of work.

great cars, hardly anything goes wrong with them, but radiators except the dealer will only last up to 4 years tops, front control arm bushings should be upgraded to poly,as stock doesn't last long and drives like mush soon after replacing every 2 to 4 years tops.great sporty dependable luxurious gas efficient

He just replaced the radiator, water pump, upper and lower hoses, t-stat housing and O2 sensors. 118,XXX.
Worth 3,500?

Not too knowledgeable on e36 but I had an e39 that I loved. Shit was sick and a blast to drive but had alot of maintenance to keep up. Only had 106xxx miles yet needed more work than my old 94 Camry.

My grandpa had one a few months ago it was a piece of shit. He said it overheated out of nowhere and well he got tired of it and sold it for like $300. I think he said he had 220k miles tho. I currently a E46 and it's a good car but I hate how easy it can throw a code. My little brother or sister kicked my seatbelt and it threw a airbag light on and well I don't have the special scanner so it just annoys the shit out of me.

German cars like BMW, Mercedes, audi and Volkswagen have shitty reliability and for that reason, I would never buy one thats out of warranty. The car you are looking at looks like shit and with high miles on the odometer, expect it to break down and when it does break down. the odds are good that the repair will be costly. If you are used to doing your own wrenching, you will also find out that European cars, especially German can be irritating to work on.

Used BMW's , Mercedes, audi and Volkswagen; terrible cars.

On a side note, it seems that for what ever reason, old beat up high mileage BMW's are popular with drug addicts.

Best choice you ever made, I had a 2000 328 and window motor went out 350$ fix, thru the airbag code just like neights twice, my uncle has a 95 and it won't start and overheated on him for no reason as well .

You're such a fucking worthless member. You never have anything good to say. Go troll some other site and I hope you get banned wherever you go. Honestly, if you go through life like you do on here I'm surprised you're not getting your ass beat wherever you go. You negative, tree hugging, bicycle riding, cock smoking, gun hating faggot.

In your case, you gun blasting, FOX news watching white hood wearing Republican sucking Texas maggot, I would highly recomend that you buy a used BMW. In fact you should buy two used BMW's, that way you will spend all of your gun money fixing broken beamers. [Razz]

Well, that's me to the T! I'm not really into foreign cars otherwise I'm sure I'd have one. I will, however, keep spending money on guns and gun accessories because America [patriot] Not the Nazi Germany you wished we lived in.

I've had a few 90's bmw's. E36 318is was one of my most reliable commuter cars ever. I drove the shit out of it during college. Even ran it with little to no oil and had zero issues lol! It was also a 5 spd and handled fairly well.

I also had a 98 528i automatic with 150k miles. No issues during the few knths that I had it. It was classy, sporty, and very Comfortable. I should've never sold it.

I then picked up a 99 528i automatic with about 180k and sport package. Looked tits Witt the m5 kit, sport suspension, and 19" AC Schnitzer wheels. I encountered the infamous over heating and Vanos issues that these cars were known for. Had to dump it. Worst daily driver I owned...

My prents also owned a few bimmers. Their current is a 95 525i with only about 115k miles. Never any problems and still drives like new. I heard these e34 models were one of the most reliable alongside the e36's.
