Cheap horsepower? Cobble together a supercharger kit from a combo of used, refurbished, and new components... for around $1500-$2000 total. Install at home. Trailer it to AED (or your tuner of choice) and get a dialed-in conservative pump gas tune.

http://mustangforums.com/forum/pipes-boost-and-juice/299111-1500-96-04gt-supercharger-kit-how-its-done.html

All said and done (depending on components used, boost level, tuner skill, etc etc) you could be making 350+rwhp fairly easily.

For perspective: Unless you're scrapping the bottom of the barrel buying the cheapest crap brands possible, $1500 is really not that hard to spend on just simple bolt-ons. Intake, throttle body/intake plenum, long tubes and shorty x-pipe, and gears + labor can total up to $1500 pretty easy. (Hell, long tubes and matching x-pipe from a high end company like Kooks can damn near be $1500 all by themselves)
