I might be looking to get a pickup truck to daily drive and use for towing my Faleen to/from trackdays. I know they are all pretty bad on MPG's, but can you give me your input on the following options: Tundra, Titan, F150, or Silverado. I'd be willing to spend around $7-8K for a crew cab (4-door) in good condition. I do need it to fit 2 car seats in the cab though. I dont really need 4wd, but I guess it'd be nice to have as well.

Please give me your opinions: Best quality, longest lasting, least amount of "known" issues, best MPG's, etc. THANKS!!

So you got rid of the Mustang?

Does it have to be a gas motorized truck? Why not a 1995 - 1997 powerstroke f-250 or 350? You can get a really nice one for 7-8k. Look for one with a 5 speed and you'll be problem free. not to mention no smog.

My dream truck has always been a crew cab, 5 speed, short bed, 4x4, powerstroke diesel.

only tundra i'd look into would be 07 n newer the older ones i compare with rangers or colorado. the titans are good, but there rear ends are small n over heat. i really dont trust f150's f250 n above yes, so i get a silverado imo best pick up n the "1500" class but 2007 n up tundras 5.7 beats them all

I have 3 company trucks that are 2001-2004 Chevy Silverados. They all have 300-500k plus miles on them. They've all had 2-3 transmissions, 2-3 fuel pumps and an alternator here and there. No other maintenance required. One of them had a cracked radiator. but other than those issues. Reliable to boot.

Nissan Titan ftw! I used to own a 04 and no issues at all. It had 140k when I got rid of it.

Neight...no, I still have the mustang.

My first choice was a Tundra because of the reliability of Toyota, but I'm really starting to like the Titan! Also, i am not looking for a diesel, so a power stroke isnt really in consideration.

NO TITIAN. my best friend had one and it was an unreliable pain it the ass. You can get a nice crew cab F150 for a good price. or an older F250-350.

What kind of issues did the Titan have?

What about Dodge Ram 1500? Anyone have any input on these?

I've owned F-150 and Ram can't complain about either so that's what I would buy , the Tundra is cool but overpriced and personally would skip the Titan. I have zero experience with the Silverado so I won't shit on it just because it's a bowtie.

100% agree with this, however it's a lot more than what he was looking to spend.

2001 lightning ftw!!!

If you are going to tow a car and trailer, I would look at a 3/4 ton truck at least, just more stable, more suspension and better braking unless you are only towing on flat land and you don't need to stop on a dime.

Posted by SydeWaySix (Member # 3596) on :

No Lightning for me... I need a crew cab so that's out of the question.

I know a 3/4 ton would be ideal for towing, but I won't be towing very often (maybe once a month or less). I'd assume mpg's on a 3/4 ton are even worse too!

I get great mileage in my F250 with pulling a trailer, fully loaded, with wife and my 4 kids, I can get to Las Vegas or San Diego on one tank, little over 600 miles fuel range.

for gas powered trucks, i think the chevy 1500'a are the best in that class especially the older ones in your price range.

This is easy, Titan! I had mine for 3 years an only did oil changes and a battery in it!! And with the tow haul on it would get better gas milage towing then normal driving!! Had tons of power, I wish I could get another one! I'll sell u my F150 so I can go buy another Titan!! Lol

Oh and I took my Titan down to San Diego and back in one day to buy my cobra seats! Cost me $220 in gas! Still had some gas left when I got back

Supercharged Harley Davidson edition crewcab F150.

Posted by SydeWaySix (Member # 3596) on :

I'd definitely want a Harley f150! But they're all out of my price range. [Frown] I'm really meaning towards a Tundra or Titan right now because of Japanese reliability lol...but if I can find a newer 05+ super crew f150 in my price range I might go that route. We'll see what happens.

The only thing holding me back from buying one asap is daily driving mpg's [Roll Eyes]

Oh and the guy who posted about the Titan differential issue, that is a service recall! Take the truck to any Nissan dealer and they will change the whole rear end out for you! They also had a recall on something with the gas tank but I never expierenced a issue. I just took the truck in for a oil change and they told me about the rear end and did it!! Never had a issue!

If you're doing a daily the lightning and harley davidson f150 is 11 miles a FUCKING gallon. I mean i have one but i dont daily drive it, so its used to tow or errands very well.

A normal F150 is cool, versus at least some shitty chevy

My wife's 5.3 Tahoe got the job done. The Japanese trucks are nice but the resale is high so you would have to get one with more miles. I got 11MPG towing 75MPH. Once you get the load positioned correctly on the trailer these trucks will control it acceptably, nothing like a 3/4 ton but I never felt like the trailer was controlling the truck.

Those Ecoboost Trucks look bad ass but Ford needs to work on their design IMO. I think those F-150 are sort of ugly.. [patriot]

Thanks for all the input guys! After some thought and consideration, I determined that although a truck would be nice to have, it's just not economical enough for a daily driver. Getting 15mpg or less just wont cut it with my commute. [Embarrassed]

I decided that I'll just re-register my FALEEN and drive it to/from the track as I did before...saves me the hassle and extra cost to tow it [patriot]
