I Just wanted to share my DT5 (Dan Turbo 50) story with the board.

Merry Christmas [patriot]

I have had the opportunity to have an engine built by Dan and I am very happy with the way everything worked out. I know lately there have been a number of posts about other members positive experiences in working with Dan on their builds, so I felt I had to ad mine as well.

I went to Dan several months ago with an idea and a budget to build me a "nice" street engine for my 89 LX project. Dan told me right then and there that he was not quick, but that the wait would be worth it. I was okay with that as my project had a laundry list of things that I wanted to do first, before dropping the engine in.

Along the way, I changed my mind 1,000,000,785.639 times. I went from Gt40's, to Edelbrocks, and finally to AFR heads. I bounced back in between the E cam, then F cam, and finally had a custom cam cut. Pistons and Compression ratio was a whole 'nother story.

What I am trying to illustrate here is that Dan will actually work with you through the build process. I have spent thousands of dollars over the years with various machine shops, only to be treated like an invoice and given a T shirt, and a kick out the door.

I was able to make a friend in this process, which to me is more important than the build anyway.

Pics Below
Thanks again Dan!!

Cliffnotes:

Dan is the man, took his time to build me a sick ass engine, I made a friend. Look at the pics. [patriot]

Thanks guys!

I know I'm gonna be real happy with it.

It's going in my little 89LX that I T topped, and put 04 IRS under it.

I just had abe50's guy do my interior:

Auto Upholstery thread in the vendor section

So now I'm trying to get all this together in a week (if I'm lucky) to make an appointment at MRP for tuning. I took all next week off work to try and pull it all together.

Wish me luck [patriot]

Dan is a good guy. If I didn't have the option of building engines here at work, I would not hesitate to take my motor to him. Anybody who takes their motor to him will not be disappointed, I have seen several of his builds and seen how they perform.

And I'll be seeing you soon Nick!

Yeah I'm really looking forward to this summer/spring.
I have been waiting to drive this car for a year, and I still have to have it painted before I'd put it on the street. I'm just gonna do something simple with paint though [Cool]

I'm in the process of trying to find a 9" wheel with some lip to it. Any ideas guys?

I will be installing as much as I can over the next week, to try to get it out so Nick can get it tuned.

Thanks for all positive posts guys!

Looking nice!! I have the same valve covers... I should be the next one posting about my Dan experience... It's sure been an eventful one... Now tear the streets up...

Dan is well........ Ehhhhh??? Jk

Nice build Ed, but I ran into issues with a Holley intake hitting those valve covers on a customer build and it caused a huge intake leak, the intake just slopes down to far on the right side! We ended up using the ford racing slant edge tall valve covers! They were $250 but are Bad ass and fit with the 1" spacer! Customer did not wanna run 2 spacers and neither did I!!!

Dan I do not see any daylight thru the valve covers and intake! I looked in every pic! U need atleast 1/4" Clearance as the gaskets are new and have not seated yet! If they are touching now then u will soon see what I mean. Just throwing out my experience here

casey what do know about engine bluiding you couldn't even put the cams in the heads on 4v build right

Posted by *BlownMach1*- TRMYN8R (Member # 5400) on :

How many 4v cam swaps have you done again Dave??? Oh that's right, ZERO! So shut your mouth when u have no clue what you are talking about! Grown men are in here, go back to your corner and sit on TIME OUT!!

come on Casey...I think Dan knows what he is doing....he will probably just ignore your "Advice"

Posted by turbo50 (Member # 6700) on :

They aren't touching and it is up to eddie. You may have noticed the very thick valve cover gaskets that are on it also. If he has any issues he will address them and I am sure he will run a stee gasket impregnated with rubber and gain any clearance he needs.

I don't know what u mean by a new gasket needing seat time? I never retorwue any gaskets on any of my builds and some have went 70k miles (SFCOUPE). Thanks for tryna help, I know u meant well.

casey the right side cam goes on the right head the left cam goes in left head, bust sense you dont know your right from left i could see why you made that mistake.

Still need to install the alt bracket tomorrow and finish nickel and diming myself to death on nuts and bolts.

My want to have all new fasteners is killing the shit out of my wallet. LOL [Big Grin]

Oh well, when I'm done I'll know every nut and bolt was new, torqued, and damage free.

I got the tranny ready to go today too, TOB installed, new sensors installed, bellhousing bolted up to case, etc...

Time for bed now, and back at it first thing in the morning. [patriot] [patriot]

Well guys,
I got it in today. My brother came by to help me again and we were able to get it in after two attempts (stupid leveler attachment was gay)

Just need to now connect all the fuel ststem stuff up, put the tank back in etc....

My SCT eliminator show up today, so things are coming together nicely.

Thanks for jinxin me Dan, scratched (bruised) the upper corner on my driver side valve cover.
Still shiny though [Big Grin]
