A customer saw the person that hit it and took down the license plates but the person dude/girl idk took off how can I get in touch with them I dont wanna call the cops for a lil chip I had just gotten my car painted and its pretty noticiable about a quarter size chip on red paint you can deff see it. Like I said it was a small chevy suv I got the plate number how can I get their info? Thanks cafords.

Yup call cops and hit and run. They were dicks about leaving without saying anything. So don't be too nice now and not call cops. Even though small chip but with new paint job....that would be something to take care of

yea call the cops and file a hit and run or ask the police if you could have that persons number so both of you can come to an agreement.

I sort of understand why the OP was looking to contact the person instead of calling cops. Same thing happened to my a while back. Dude hit my Silverado on the front bumper. Small indent. Luckily for me my boy and his dad were walking into the place I was at, they saw it and got the dudes tags for me. I called the cops and they came out took a report. I told them I wasn't trying to press hit & run charges and they said ok. I said that because maybe the guy didn't notice he hit since my boy said it was a big truck that hit me. Right away the guy went to the police station shitting bricks and provided his insurance information to the cops. I went to pick up the info gave it to my insurance and got paid

You can call the cops bro, the person will get spooked when they see a potential hit & run charge. Good Luck!

call DMV theirs a number I call all the time before I purchase a vehicle to check if tags are real, if its in sellers name, if clean title, if any fees owed, etc. Maybe they can help if you tell them your situation "I can't find the #"
They might say can't release that info but ask to who they can release it to like your insurance company of cops idk

Contact your insurance as stated. Give the name, number of the witness and the other information of the person at fault. they'll contact the guilty party and their insurance provider and get things right.
