Wow, I was driving from the Roseville automall to my Ford store on Madison and I could've sworn it would hit North Highlands!!! Where did it actually hit, or did it burn up completely??

So surreal...

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (KCRA) —

A meteor dashed across the night sky Wednesday in what experts say is just the beginning of a much larger shower.

At 7:44 p.m., witnesses, security cameras and observatories all reported the bright light streaking across the Northern California sky.

Reports came into the KCRA 3 newsroom from as far south as Bakersfield and along the coast from Monterey to the Bay Area.

Scientists said the meteor is likely the beginning of the Orionid meteor shower, which is expected to peak this weekend.

Onlookers could see as many as 25 or more meteors per hour, according to Bill Cooke, of NASA's Meteoroid Environment Office.

The Orionid meteor shower is made of bits of debris from Haley's comet.

Cooke says the best time to see the meteor shower is several hours before sunrise on Sunday.
