If you're in favor of for-profit health care, then you should also want to privatize police and fire. Why should you pay extra taxes to protect someone else's house? It's their own fault if they have faulty wiring and can't afford private fire protection, right?

Ideally, I would like to see the for profit health care in this country eliminated and in it's place would be Medicare for all.
The missing peice of Obama's health care reform is Medicare for everyone and I feel optimistic that an amendment to make medicare avalable for anyone who wants it is coming so long as Obama gets re elected and the democrats gain control of the house and senete.

I don't think anyone's gonna take the bait.
It's one thing to ask Americans to pay taxes for Military, Police, Fire & a functioning government.
It's another thing to ask Americans to pay for lazy people to receive benefits when they have no intensions on every getting off of them.
Everyone has a chance in America to better themselves, but a lot of people haven't got the work ethic to become suscessful.
That's the honest truth.

People might need help sometimes and thats just life. But being a damn lazy piece of shit is irritating. What happened to working hard and busting YOUR ass to make YOURSELF rich? Not the lazy fucks. I think that if you're too lazy to work then find somewhere to die. I don't like the whole handouts idea because it stunts economic growth.
Is that too much to ask?

It should be there when you need it in hard times "for free". When your back on your feet it should be affordable. I have been in that situation with a layoff and kids and needed it. Thats my opinion on it. Now with that comes all the people that use and abuse the system that we all end up paying for.

You know it's not free right. They are taxed to help generate the $96 billion they need each year to care for the 60+ million citizens. If we had a similar system, could you imagine the costs to cover 333 million citizens?
Here's a good Frontline episode from a few years ago that profiled a couple of different healthcare systems. Its interesting.

Right I do understand that they are taxed to shit but atleast they have a standardized health care system.
I dont think that the US should have FREE health care but I do feel that for people or young kids that have serious illnesses or other health issues that they should still be provided proper health care, especially for those people that really need it but cant afford it.

Well whats affordable???
Whats affordable for me might not be for someone else, or whats affordable for someone else might not be for myself. I cant wait to see the dr's in practice when there is no money to be made

It seems people will never be happy about the way things go. If it's free people will bitch about paying extra taxes, if it's affordable there will still be people bitching about paying for healthcare. It seems like a lot of people in here understand that affordable is a better route. Unfortunately there are a ton of people out there looking for some magical fix for everything in the country. More funding toward everything yet no added taxes. Pipe dreams of many.

Affordable is a good question. I tend to think people don't want to spend money on things like healthcare or retirement. They live in a Me! Me! Me! Now! Now! Now! world. People in my area that live in government assisted housing drive tahoes and escalades while talking on iPhones. The U.S government would like me to believe these are the 46 million people in poverty. We are all being fooled here.

Free healthcare or cheap healthcare won't get you much. It SHOULD get you good coverage but the reality is that it sucks.
For instance it's not uncommon for physician who takes HMO plans to only make $10-20 per visit per patient. They also have an agreement with health care providers where they will make x amount per patient ($20 seems to be about avg for HMO) under their policy per month regardless if they came in or not.
In order for the DR to make any kind of money they have to overload on patients. Overload on patients means you'll be in the waiting room for a long time and will only be seen by the physician for a few minutes before he/she moves on. The kind of care he/she will give is a simple glance at your charts and off you go.

I also agree with affordable like most people you have to make some effort to get and earn goods and services.
And I totally agree with you I live in Del Paso and I see this type of shit everyday, don't all the fucking Social Workers and DHHS people check on where the fucking EBT cards and funds are being spent??? Everybody has a fuckin pair of new shoes and a cell I remember when we were broke as kids going to school it was Pro Wings now I see MF's who's family is on Welfare wearing Nike's and watchin big screen tv's. That's what's wrong with people how can someone who gets government aid and sits on their ass dress nicer and push a nicer car then people who work 40 hours a week. Terrible.
