I just purchased a 2004 Mustang Mach 1. What is the best exhaust system to put on the car? I'm going for a loud and aggressive sound. Any thoughts???

I've always loved Bassani x and cat back...next to that would be Borla...I had slp lm2 on my 97/4v and at times it was too much...especially with interior noise levels if ur mashin on it...

It's all about preference

I've looked at a lot of videos on YouTube and I'm like the SLP Loudmouth 1 the best. I like the sound of Borla Stingers but they're really quiet and expensive. I'll definitely run a Bassani x pipe and was thinking either kooks or bbk long tubes.

I've got bassani x wit cats & Borla Stinger cat back & think it sounds great. Sometimes I wish it was louder until the cops swarm on us & nail the loud ass cars. I may get the JBA shortie headers cause there smog legal, but for now I'm happy with Bassani & Borla.

Loudmouth 1's is just stupid and obnoxious..expect to get.pulled over constantly. Borla XR1's FTW!

Posted by Frisco Joe (Member # 12325) on :

Thanks for all the advice. The SLP Loudmouths are really loud, I like it but, the last thing I want is getting pulled over for it. I've paid enough money out for stupid stuff so I'd rather not mess with that. Now that I hear the Borla XR-1's I like the sound of those a lot better than the Stingers. Still not as loud but the Borla's have a great sound.

With both being straight through you can expect the same results

why don't u get some mufflers that can be quiet when your easy on it and loud when you step on it ,, i heard magna packs offer that.

Dynomax Race Bullets are nice mufflers. But, louder than SLP Loudmouth's? I think not.

Dynomax Race Bullets essentially share their design philosophy with other "bullet" style mufflers. Namely, the Borla Stinger, Magnaflow Magnapack, SLP Loudmouth 2, and many many other small casing sound absorption style mufflers. The primary difference being, the reduced size of the casing and amount of sound absorbing material increases the sound level.

 -

The SLP Loudmouth "Shotgun" resonator is different, in that is has no sound absorbing material. Period. It is basically an open single-chamber with no internal baffling. It "reduces" sound (barely) only through the act of giving exhaust gases a chamber in which to expand, cool, and slow down ever so slightly.

 -

Now, i do agree that the SLP Loudmouth can be obnoxious, but if you want the absolute loudest exhaust, it's these, or straight pipes.

An awesome sounding exhaust, and extremely affordable, is SSS Exhaust. A full catback, in stainless, is like $300.

It's science. The entire concept of muffler design revolves around sound reduction, not amplification. Open headers are loudest. Followed by straight exhaust with no mufflers (hence no sound reduction). Then in descending order would be mufflers with more and more sound absorbing or canceling capacity.

SLP Loudmouth's have no sound absorption material. Dynomax Race bullets do.

Put both mufflers on identical cars, and compare them with calibrated DB meters instead of biased ears, and I'm confident that SLP is louder. There's no physical way a SLP Loudmouth would cancel out MORE noise then a Race Bullet.

I'm not saying SLP sounds better than Dynomax, I'm simply saying they're louder.
