So i have come across a good 66 project and have started to do research to make it into a pro touring style stang. I know these came unibody but still wanna try and do a frame under there with full suspension....now my question..incase ii decide not to get this project can i still build one before i get a shell? Like build a frame and then look for the right shell. Im looking to save space by builing the frame first and going from ground up. Also what am i looking at for custom frame ($$$)? nothing super crazy

If you are asking this question here, you are living a pipe dream.

Having said that anything is possible with enough money.

Unless you can build your own frame from scratch.....here's an example of a " Bolt On Full Frame "
http://schwartzperformance.com/1964-1973-mustang-chassis-full-frame/

Not cheap but I think this is what your looking for.

Is that the budget pro touring mustang? He did a lot of work to that car.... I wish he would have kept it FORD power.

Your gonna need to take alot measurements. Are you going to do a round or square tub chassis? You could try and take some measurements of one at a car show vender booth.
They would be shocked if you pulled out a tape measure and used their frame as a template LOL.

I wanna do a square chassis ..this is because of cost, also wanna be able to notch the frame to run exhaust, and more streetable correct me if im wrong. ...yea im gnna show up with cardboard and cut out an exact replica to build one haha

yeah look to spend atleat $14-15K on a full chassis! some sick front and rear suspension plus subframe connectors goes a long way!! the DSE mustang is Dominating a lot of events right now and thats still a uni-body that is subframe connected. but with DSE youll still be spending a lot just not all at once!

u want a full frame? sub frames! there is a lower for moderate driving, and u can add a upper sub frame for the more serious driver. u can still ad what ever suspension u want to that car. there is no need to have a full removable frame.

Well my thinking behind a frame was tht so far the research ive been doing seems to be tht you cant go as low on suspension, subframes, etc than a full frame also but im not %100 on frame either but tht route jst draws the most interest to me [Big Grin]

you can go low with a lot of the new suspension out there. my gateway kit allowed me to go down almost 3" up front without changing ride quality!

Any pics? Ive looked at a few kits but not too many pro touring pics with them installes but i would even go with small flares in the fenders to really tuck the wheels and reall drop the car

well heres a video of the car if it helps. btw the front end isnt aligned so it will sit a little lower with the correct negative camber plus if I trim the top of the ball joint i can get it another 1/2" lower:

the Dse 66 is running a 275 up front with no flares and a 315 out back un-flared too! and their suspension has 3" of drop aleady built in and it can go an inch either way without effecting the geometry.

http://www.detroitspeed.com/speednews/fordnationals/ford-nationals-pg-2.html

In all honesty if a few things I have up for sale sell soon I may ixnay the Gateway suspension in favor of the DSE.

gateway has a total of 5.5" front suspension travel and DSE is sitting at 6". both should ride really good on the street.

Yeah keep in mind a cougar wheel well is a lot taller= harder to fill the gap. Since a mustang has lower lips the "slammed" look is a lot easier.

Posted by v-town coupe (Member # 2771) on :

Also keep in mind tire height. The front tires on the Dse mustang are pretty tall.

I could go lower if i had rolled the fenders [Frown]
Its a QA1 Coilover suspension in the front and a Martz Chassis coilover in the back
245 in the front and 315 in the rear on 17 inch wheels.

Stance is still sick! Yea i would go maybe 1" -1 1/2" flare and maybe 18's to give it tht slammed look if i was building mine lol
